That seems to be not the case, see this example (Game 6956257):
2010-05-27 19:20:03 - Barendil received 3 troops for 1 regions
2010-05-27 19:20:06 - Barendil cashed in a group of Labrador Sea, St. Lazarus Archipelago, and Equatorial Current nuking each region
2010-05-27 19:20:06 - Barendil eliminated Obeythylord from the game
2010-05-27 19:20:12 - Barendil cashed in a group of Melanesia, Sea of Okhotsk, and Java Sea nuking each region
2010-05-27 19:20:19 - Barendil deployed 3 troops on ?
2010-05-27 19:20:28 - Barendil assaulted ? from ? and conquered it from Chuckler3
2010-05-27 19:21:05 - Barendil ended the turn and got spoils
By cashing his set Barendil nuked Obeythylord out of the game. He must have gotten his cards or else he could never have cashed another set directly again.
So eliminating somebody by nuking him is just the same as eliminating somebody in a normal way. You will get his cards (no matter if that player is an opponent or your teammember).
Only question remains what will happen in a teamgame if you nuke yourself out (same holds for games with respawning neutrals; what will happen when a player only has respawning territories and starts his turn). Will that players cards go to the first teammate that is left. I guess they will as it is similar to deadbeating, in which case the cards do go to the teammate.
