I can't find any documentation, but I'm guessing the Conqueror designation/icon were created to reward people who were good at this game, not those who just learned how to game the system. Do you have the highest score? Yes. Did you break any official rules? No. Should anyone respect you for making sure that nobody decent played against you? No. The people that are respected are those on the scoreboard who don't use foe lists and/or the invite system to limit their opponents, and those that don't invite low-ranked players to private games to beat up on them. The people who make it to General/Field Marshal because of their superior gaming skills are those that are respected, and it's been a long time since the person who held the title of Conqueror earned that respect.

As stated numerous times up thread "The only way to become conqueror is to find a way to abuse the system"

This has been true here since the beginning. Most (all? nearly all?) of the conquerors have found some method other than exemplary play to attain the title. The methods have varied over the years, but it has been consistently true.

This indicates to me that it's the system itself that is flawed. If the only way to the top is to find a method of legal manipulation, then the title itself becomes a cheap and pointless crown, which it is and has been. It's an empty victory.

It's just that simple.

How to fix it? I don't know. The topic has been hashed around off and on over the years. Suggestions include completely revamping the ratings point system; combination systems of points, win ratio, medal counts; user voting; all of the above.

Personally I would respect the crown if earned through a combination of points, win ratio, medals, total games played, ratings(maybe..tie ratings to rank and a new form of abuse would emerge).

Until such time as the system changes, I will continue to look upon the conqueror as a tinpot despot that deserves sneering contempt instead of admiration.

Ljex....in your role as moderator (and therefore a custodian of the site and its integrity) I'm surprised you're prepared to defend the underhand tactics employed by certain members.

The implementation of the invite function was a wonderful facility that has been enjoyed by all and used, by the majority, in accordance with its intent. All it takes is one selfish individual to abuse it and the consequence may be that site admin have to implement certain constraints. Net result.....we all lose out, to the detriment of the site and its playability.

So I'd have thought "He's within the rules, however unethical it may be" would be the most apt remark you could make, but then of course it's not my place to say.

In all honesty i am not a fan of emmdizzle, he foed me because i gave him good competition in a game which is just a cheep tactic.

What i am defending is his right to play as he wants within the rules which we all do and the fact that many other players take long vacations from CC but people dont care because you do need to dedicate a lot of time to play a casual freestyle game.

Start making games, make them private if you want to invite one person to each team, or public and don't use invites, and if you keep your score you will gain respect with me, and I think just about everyone else on this thread. I've got no problem with you playing one game type, you have to in order to be conqueror. If you're really a good player, you don't have to abuse the invite system.

Why do you care if he plays games? A lot of time goes into any freestyle casual game to be avaliable at all hours of the day to take your move. Why dont you care that Thai Robert and Mehenigan aren't playing games and would you be upset if they weren't if they made it to the #1 spot?

Don't lump Mhennigan in this group. Henni relishes playing the best he can find. He would rather play high ranks than non high ranks. He wins more points that way. Sure Hennigan likes certain maps, but he has played vs the best many times over. He just knows what it takes to play freestyle and only plays when he can afford the time to play.

If it makes you feel any better Blitz gets just as much flak, at least from me. I can understand you coming to Emmdrizzle's aid though, clanmates and all, and both coming from the Socialist/Communist Republic of California (according to your location). Obviously very close - it's understandable. What you're not close to though is the integrity of the game and how some individuals abuse it.

What's most convenient is that it got locked and swept under the carpet when something should have been done back then. And personally that's what I'd like to draw attention to - that a guy can abuse the system 'within the rules' and despite a vociferous majority nothing was ever done to put it in check.

I just read parts of this forum, wanted to join a game to show how worthless he is but he's not even starting new games, and what's this stuff about him or ANYONE in fact being allowed to even invite anyone to a game for an OPPOSING team, unless it's a private game they should only be allowed to invite teammates. Usually that's by bending the rules to your advantage.

You're spot on re your Conqueror remark btw. The only thing here though is that a decent device (the Invite function) that was introduced for everyone's benefit is being abused. If it results in certain constraints having to be put in place to limit its functionality it means we all lose out, so players who are so hell-bent on success should perhaps think of others before executing their own self-serving needs.

Guys like poo-maker wanted to play the best there was because they could still win. How about someone like scott-land who played speed 8 man freestyle games. All 8 players had a chance to win. It is not like he foed people to keep the best out. Actually he wanted to play them as he won more points. What about sjnap's first time as number 1? He played seq esc std to make it, and some random team games. Is that farming also? Just saying you did not need farming to make number 1. I have a feeling it will return back to that way one day.

Conqueror = Best Farmer

Some people to this day are good enough not to farm. Specialize sure, but not farm. Take KingofGods for example. Sure he played 1 vs 1 freestyle speed to make his final push, but he did not foe people and welcomed high ranks to join vs him. Also look at Rabbiton, who from Jan 2009 till his top rank / score put 400+ points on. He played clan games and other high ranking team games. Did he farm those high ranks?

That's all its ever been for years.

That is all people think it has been for years. Just because you get mopped up in a speed freestyle does not mean it is farming, or get beat in a high ranked team game.
