Dice Favour Neutral Territories

Postby Zarg78 on Tue Jul 22, 2008 6:52 am

There is definitely a bug with attacks on nuetral territories. Any attack on a neutral territory is bound to fail, unless your army ratio is something rediculous like 25 to 3. even so, you will find most of your armies demolished, leaving weak and powerless.

If the dice rolls are completely random, then a 6 to 3 attack should be fair odds of conquering the territory. Unfortunately it is not. You have a better chance of beating an opponenent's 3 over a neutral 3.

The dice rolls are favouring nuetral territories, and I'm tired of having my games ruined by it. If you agree with me, then comment on this. If you disagree or can disprove what I've said, then definietly do post a comment.

Zarg78

Thanks for your post ...
This subject comes up quite a lot ... I hope you don't mind if I paste in a previous response I've made to similar suggestions and questions.

Dice
Note that Conquer Club do not simply state their dice are random and ask users to take this on trust ...
If you click "Help" in the main CC menu ... to get to the Conquer Club Frequently Asked Questions and look at the first question (Q17) under the heading "About Gameplay" you'll see "How do the dice work?"
Following the link there to http://www.random.org I have browsed through the article http://www.random.org/randomness/ which is helpful on why and how their numbers are truly random. Personally I find the evidence there (and elsewhere within the site as far as my maths allows me to understand it) enough to reassure me - beyond any frustrating experiences/strange observations of my own here at Conquer Club - that the numbers are truly random and our dice are truly random.
Their FAQ question 2.1 is kinda relevant :)
And 2.2 is interesting given how our own FAQ explains how CC uses the random.org numbers.

One of my own takes on why we perceive the dice way we do is in Can u believe this.
Twill's fairly technical assertion on why the dice must be random is in Petition to Change the Dice.
I'd suggest reading those and the conversation surrounding them.

Neutrals get to roll 4 dice, but only 2 are displayed. It's in the Instructions. Somewhere near the bottom I think. No really. Kgo!

BTW, those dice in my sig were against a neutral territory. Neutral had 1 army. Honestly

'all new' intensity cubes complaints (merged)

Postby eliteslayer7 on Mon Nov 03, 2008 5:21 pm

[modedit]This post when originally made had the subject 'BS dice'. Please see post by cicero further down this page explaining the function of this renamed thread.[/modedit]

original post follows
___________

The dice are completely bs and the website needs to find a better way to do a random number generator. Overall this website is just being lazy and not responsible for their crappy methods of running the site.(this includes the crappy classic map)
<DELETE ME>
PLACE A CONCISE DESCRIPTION OF THE SUGGESTION OR BUG IN THE SUBJECT LINE!!!

The dice ARE random, lots and lots of analysis has been done on them both internally and by community members.

Search for previous suggestion or bug reports and check stickies before posting something "new".

Delete or replace any xxxxxxx with the appropriate information.
Delete any entires which do not apply.
</DELETE ME>

Concise description:
  • xxxxxxx

Specifics:
  • xxxxxxx

This will improve the following aspects of the site:
  • xxxxxxx (you can obviously delete this for bug reports)
  • xxxxxxx

Yes :)

Longer term members of Conquer Club will remember the infamous "all dice complaints (merged)" thread which ran to 50 or more pages. Unfortunately at some stage that thread has been lost. I have informed the site administrators.

Whilst we wait for that to be found I have renamed this thread the "'all new' intensity cubes complaints (merged)" to serve the same function.

The authoritative post on dice/intensity cubes and their randomness can be found in the Final analysis of CC Dice. Streaks, distribution, win/loss thread.

While we're at the complaining about CC's intensity cubes not being random enough, can i complain about my dice in the board game, Risk? I have the same problems with dice that you guys are complaining about here... if that doesn't prove randomness.....

How many more until it reaches something fair? Another 350 rolls? 3.500? 7.000?

And don´t say they will even out.. Double defence reached the wonderfil 30.7%, 5% above the expected and now they are increasing again. Now they are over 8% the expected, favoring, of course, defence, due to the streaky non-random tie-loving dice we have here. Have lost 8x3 , 6x2, 5x3 and 7x3 today.

Games:
184 completed, 43 (23%) won

the FUN thing is, I won ALL those 43 games over TWO MONTHS ago. Since then, I have won none... I have UNLEARNED how to play the game. And I have NOT changed the type of game I play. Always the same settings, nearly the same maps, but I simply cannot beat the dice anymore.
