I'd rather see the classifications, possible 2-3 ways (easy, medium hard complex) in combination with small medium large (super large when that happens)

You do realize that this thread is a discussion, it's not based around creating maps or actual foundry activity?

On topic: Poison Rome, Forbidden City, and WWII Europe are horrible (both graphically and gameplay). Land and Sea and Operation Drug War seem tacky to me, but I can live with it. And those aren't even including a bunch of the maps that I hate to play (AoR, Bamboo, Waterloo).

8 thoughts is a great map, B Jack is a good map, although the stations never really come into play in most games. Waterloo is a fantastic map and has the most differing strategies of any map.

Poison Rome and Forbidden City are terrible maps. I only play them when they come up in a tourney or random.

I like the idea of organizing the maps into categories, like a poster a couple of posts up said.

Hell, it could probably even help drive premium by making some maps be behind the pay wall.

I'm tempted to say I wouldn't get rid of any. If I did though I would definitely go for ones that few people play. Also the ones where there are a lot of repeats. Some complex maps are just pointless and stupid, so some of them would go.

-Aor's, I'd get rid of two of them. Come on, they're not that much different, just keep AOR 3.
-Forbidden city, I know some people who love it, but how many new maps do we have to learn here.
-Ardennes, I enjoy playing this map, but lets be honest, it basically gives an advantage to people who have bob; to the point where you can't play the map without it.
-Waterloo.
-Some of the USA road maps, yes they are somewhat orignial, but I don't know that we need that many. (Is this a proper sentence incan?)
-USA, I hate that fucking map. Worst map on CC. Most imbalanced play. No, its not the same as classic.
-supermax, world, boa, come on, what a waste of time. More territories, more time, less enjoyment. Sorry fitz, not going to agree with you here.
-Extreme global, enough said.
-Pearl harbor, this one could probably go in the trash too.

Ok, as said above I would rather not get rid of any of them, although some sort of grouping system would be nice. But, if I had to get rid of some, the ones above might be might be my choices.

I disagree. I do well on this map. I don't use BOB, and I love this map.

My second-favorite map. I love how the "regions" are so scattered combined with the simple huge-ness of the map.

I'm amazed you didn't say Circus Maximus, since it seems sometimes that I'm the only one who likes it (it's my favorite, actually).

The issue is not the number of pickles we have... it's the size of the jar.

I'd get rid of the following...

Super Max- The entire warden/gas chamber area is wasted space
Siege- What the hell is that thing in the lower left of the map? An umbrella?
Arms Race- You can't even play a battle royal with this map
Battle for Iraq- The map doesn't even work properly.

senate would have to go. and so would crossword and operation drug war... there's really about 1/2 of the maps that could be removed without me caring one bit.

Only sorta. And you did misspell "original".

For my part, there are certainly maps that I either don't like or think are redundant... I think we could safely get rid of half the "36-45 region basic gameplay" maps with no harm done.

But the real problem, as others have stated, is organization, which has been discussed on and off in the foundry for years now, without any movement forward from management. When I first got here, there were something like 25 maps, still a pretty amazing array for someone who'd only ever played on the classic map and a handful of lux maps. But now there are 141 undifferentiated maps, which could easily be overwhelming for a new recruit.

Why get rid of any maps? There are so many differing opinions here. Every map probably has some fan base, or else they would not see any play. Why take the joy away from the players of that map just because you don't like it? If you worry so much about having to play it on random map, then just don't play random.

If I was to remove any maps, it would be maps are abused by farmers, such as city mogul. Past that all maps are OK.

If you were given the power to revamp the map list that Conquer Club currently offers, what maps would you remove from Conquer Club, and why?

  • Would you be removing them for "the good of website" (what the heck does that event mean?)?
  • Would you be removing them for personal/clan reasons ("I/we never win on Bamboo Jack")?
  • Are they all similarly themed, either graphically or mechanically ("I can't stand the look of the USA Map pack" or "I dislike the Age of Realms series game play...")?
  • Other reasons?

Is there any point to this question Mr Monkey or is it idle curiosity?
If it is with the view to clearing space, personally i don't see why any map should go. All are someone's baby.. no matter how ugly the little tyke may be.

Is it really the map's fault, or the lack of setting limitations or a lack of player integrity?

Let's add the classifications of non-geographical as well.

What happens when there are 200 maps, what about 300? Think ahead and plan for that. ;)

im surprised no one has brought this one up, but i would get rid of conquerman..

not only is it a huge map, but i believe it makes a lot of computers very slow when trying to play on it.. i have to turn off all my add-ons (BOB really) just to play the map..

i have only played the map once (random game) and won it but still will be happy to never play it again...

Idea: What if we had the option to sort the map lists ourselves, through the control panel?

We could go through and select which maps we want to appear on the gamefinder/gallery (that way each person could pick their own favorite 50, and players with minority interests aren't screwed). Then if you wanted to see more maps you could click "see all" and have the full gallery at your disposal.

This would be very nice, because users could select only 10 or 20 maps if they wanted and have a simplified maps screen. Alternatively, some users may like to play EVERY map, and they could still have the option of viewing them all at once.

We could even automate the process by having a button in your control panel which says "Show 10, 25, or 50 most played maps". There could be other options (most played by that specific user, most popular on the site, etc.) This could also be a good place to employ the map "categories" that have been discussed so much. Since not all users would be sorting maps the same way it wouldn't really affect the popularity of maps, and yet it would make map selection much friendlier for each user.
