Hmm....I was going to join you in the darkest of dark humour and even wrote a nice little gag involving '(not) rolling around on the ground gasping for air in mirth'.

But jokes about the holocaust are always going to offend more people than they actually make laugh and if the test of a good joke is actually making more people happy then I think yours would fail. It is too explicit, too in your face and the images it puts into the mind's eye are not pleasant...to say the least.

Don't misunderstand me, I am all for pushing the boundaries. But I think the holocaust is still a raw topic even after all these years and while it is one people should certainly be challenged to consider, think about and learn from, I think your presentation of it veered towards simply making light of an horrendous act, rather than asking people to really consider it through the use of humour.

But it is a fine line and while I applaud the attempt (assuming your intention was to challenge preconceptions) I think you got it a bit wrong.

I'm somewhat busy for a week and come back to this? Why was I not informed? I thought I was the resident expert on politically incorrect use of more or less tentatively nazi-related imagery!

The more censorships in general, the more likely that ignorant people with power (so, for example, you) will ignore stories in the past and repeat what has already happened.

If any kind of disciplinary warning is recieved on my part, it just proves the above.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Give this man a prize.

King "A" in his infinite ignorance, and or attempt to suppress the truth of what really happened at Auschwitz, how ironic that just this past Friday, thieves stole the notorious sign bearing the cynical Nazi slogan "Arbeit Macht Frei" — "Work Sets You Free" from the entrance to the former Auschwitz death camp.

"The theft of such a symbolic object is an attack on the memory of the Holocaust, and an escalation from those elements that would like to return us to darker days," Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev said in a statement from Jerusalem.

"I call on all enlightened forces in the world who fight against anti-Semitism, racism, xenophobia and the hatred of the other, to join together to combat these trends."

King "A" claims that my avatar and sig are offensive and anti-semitic, Really? Funny how things that represent the holocaust are used as an excuse by people who wish to forget about it, who try to say," that the holocaust never happened" and yet The Jewish community wishes that we never forget about what occurred , Theres a reason why Auschwitz is now a museum.

King "A" who are you to question my intentions, who are you to ineptly try to understand the meaning of my sig and avatar without even taking the time to ask the meaning on my part?

A lesson here Colton. Some people like to use the horror of the Nazi experience to upset and even terroize people who fear a return of that horror. By calling on the symbols and icons of the Nazi era as trivia to wear on a lapel, they twist the guts of those that truely suffer from what was done to ther families. It doesn't matter what is their particular ethnicity, academic insulation, cute fabrication of logic, or other conflating factor; these people are truely terrorists. They draw on the pain and suffering of the past to reinflict it today.

Botton line, it is not necessary to inflame with the icons of Nazi actions to discuss the horror os that period. But is does create the chaos and suffering the troll is looking for.

Are you serious? "The Jewish community wishes that we never forget…" and you're claiming that by making a shitty joke about the Holocaust, you're helping "the Jewish community?" Ha. Like Changsha said, "Get over it."

I thought the warning instead of a friendly removal request was out of line but the more azzezo protests this the more I see the warning is proper.

Point. Thread done.

This was not an ironic observation to make people think about the holocaust, it was a bad joke.

That's really NOT true at all. It's quite simply only a policy that has been made.

Yep. In phpBB software, it should be pretty easy to manipulate the tables if one were so inclined. Not sure why they don't want you to change your name, especially if it's something like Hitler_Was_Awesome, but that's the way it is. prolly should stay on topic...but usernames whilst easy to change for phpbb software...are quite more difficult to change for the game side of the website hence why its not a featured offered, and is really only used in extreme circumstances.

Ahh, I know absolutely nothing about the game side interface, so I guess that makes sense. Maybe there should be some sort of approval process for usernames so offensive usernames can be weeded out. I would think names like the above would be an "extreme circumstance".

Lets not get too off topic about offensive usernames. If we receive legitimate complaints about a user's name, we may take action to request a name change. Over the years Conquer Club has been active, we've had to do this very infrequently, so I don't think it has been much of a problem.

A tasteless joke to be sure, but where do we draw the line?

At what point do we stop identifying things solely with Nazis and the holocaust?

After all Mitsubishi built air plane engines for Japanese fighter planes, Germany's Luftwaffe Air Planes where powered by BMW engines, notice the propeller on the bonnet of today's BMW, it is the propeller, blue skies and clouds emblem.

If I post a picture of a BMW or Mitsubishi emblem as my sig with a tag line like "assaulting American automakers since WWII" am I going to get in trouble?

There is a difference between building war machines to use against enemy armies and poison gas to be used exclusively to exterminate civilian populations. If you cannot see that difference, then well that is the first sign of terminal Nazism.

Exclusively? I doubt that. Millions died by the gas, there is no denying that, but I highly doubt that that was the ONLY thing it was used for. Like it has been said before in this thread, it was also used to eliminate rats and other pests. And I'm sure that the people who were gassed weren't all civilians, i'm sure there were POW's or resistance members gassed as well.

Look, Nazis suck. That we can all agree upon. But we all are making a big huge deal out of something that happened sixty years ago. Yes, it was a huge crime against humanity, and yes, it was an absoulutely horrible series of events that should never have happened, and should never happen again. But you've got to be able to joke about it at some point. Hell, if people were offended this easily about every war that humanity had ever fought, this website would probably be considered an offensive glorification of war. Nothing about the Holocaust is ever going to change, so you can either get used to it, or continue to fear it. Im not trying to sound like I don't understand the Jew's viewpoints, but again, it happened about sixty years ago. The sooner we can joke about it, the sooner we can stop fearing it and learn from it, and the sooner people can stop flipping out every time something that has the faintest ties to the Holocaust comes up. If we continue to punish people who don't take the Holocaust as seriously as others, nothing is ever going to change, and people will continue to rant everytime someone says the word 'Nazi'.
