Dumb ass question time;

Why did the old one get replaced? I wasn't around when all the change came about, i started playing again at the end of the shapes one, then Sullys one came in... Did lack get sued by Hasbro/Risk ? Or some crap like that? :-s

For those than joined after, a large portion will be attached to the maps they knew, the Shapes and Art. And new players joining from here on out will only know the Classic REVAMP, and they'll come to love it.

But I definitely liked the graphic style of the original!

heh pretty diplomatic Andy.

For me the graphics of the new, Sully map, are significantly better than the original.
i would still rather play the original as i don't engage with the line maps in the same way as i do with the territory maps. (not Sully's fault, we are told it had to be so for copyright)
Whether it be conditioning or something more instinctive i, and many, find the 2 dimensional, literal representation of space more accessible than an abstract one. Obvious really i suppose. (just think how bloody tricky it was to first read a tube/subway map)

For this very reason i always found the visually poor Classic art easier to play than the Shapes. - though these two had their own specific counter 'intuitives': For Art the mind treated the gameplay as old classic so, as you formulated an attack on Kamchatka, you had to scour the map for an obscure artists name, only committing half the distracted brain to the search for it... in the same way you look for a missing sock in an airing cupboard; The Shapes was inaccessible to my brain-type and yet you still had a head start in your search due to the grid-reference.

Anyway, i think Sully is to be commended on his work, my brain just finds it much much tougher to process.

I really liked the original...too bad it was a copyright infringement, it looked awesome! You gotta say, it looked better than classic art/shapes, but compared to those to maps, 2010 map is best.

To my eye, the new classic looks better than the old classic. And when you talk about shapes & art, no contest...

I can't confirm (because I don't know) if Hasbro contacted CC, but I do know that around that timeframe, Hasbro did sue another site over Scrabble; and won; which would in itself alert the wise that Hasbro was now pursuing website infringements for its copyrighted games.

The thing is, copyrights don't just hit visual property; intellectual property is part of a copyright. Successful lawsuits have been made over a familiar series of chords first used in one copyright song, then repeated in another with an entirely different melody.

What does that mean? The 'classic' attack pattern itself, not just use of "Venezuela and Kamchatka" might be copyrighted.
