i like this. it doesn't allow people to skirt out of saying something horrible to a person when they know full well, exactly what they are saying and/or doing. and it leaves ground for the usual forum misunderstandings to be handled without tossing someone for making a simple off colour joke that has offended someone it may or may not have been directed at. i think this is miles beyond what is currently in place (as i feel it is pretty non-existent), and it gives the admins/mods a nice tool to help make this a friendlier place for everyone... nice work, andy...-0

Well, both would be considered vulgar, but the first wouldn't be considered abusive toward anyone. For me, that's the real key.

As well, I am also against banning words, though for slightly different reasons. Jiminski and I have discussed this at length in another thread...banning words doesn't do ANY good and I would go so far as to say that it causes harm. Allow me to explain...if someone calls someone else the N word, then that's a clear-cut violation of the policy against bigotry...there is no grey area. Easy to moderate. But if a word-filter is in place, the individual will know this and they will simply word things to work around the word-filter, quite likely making it worded in such a way that now there IS some grey area to the offensive statement, resulting in a more difficult moderatory decision and likely a less harsh punishment.

words are neither racial or bigotted , the mere use of them does not make someone a biggot or racist, only an asshole, i would be happier about all this if it pertained to assholes, rather than labeling someone a bigot or racist. i realize c.c is trying to reverse its prior "suck it up cupcake stance" thats all fine and good, and obviously it wont be easy to do.

perhaps a better way to go is to have its members in 2 groups, 18 and under, the protected children and anyone who is easily offended, and 18 and over for everyone else.

Nice work Andy and nice work to everyone who contributed to this forum. I agree with owen that Andy's proposal will cut back on people trying to excuse their way out of bad behavior.

Perhaps an intro explaining what we want cc to be would be helpful in the newly revised rules. Something along the lines of:

Also, owenshooter was never banned "for not liking to be called the n-word." He was banned because he had been trolling the forum digging up old arguments and being a nuisance. End of story. He refused to heed warnings and paid the punishment. Stop trying to wrap it in something it isn't.

As for the topic at hand. Racism is not tolerated as noted in the community guidelines and to my knowledge the offenders have been dealt with according to the policies we currently have. Keep in mind that the moment we change a policy to deal with one issue it opens up a can of worms. Next thing you know everyone will want a minimum punishment for some other issue, then another one, and then it just gets ridiculous.

Lets be careful to remember that we have no intention of letting racism go unchecked, and in my opinion it hasn't been allowed to do so. Part of the problem here is people who keep dragging the same issue through the mud a million times.

so, is this the official response on racism? just wondering... and i am not dragging anything through the mud a million times. i simply complain when i am called the N word EACH AND EVERY TIME(like in this thread, as admitted by the user that posted it), and when users are let off without any punishment for racist remarks/actions. i find it funny that a member called me Nshooter in this thread, fully knowing what it represents, and he hasn't received an immediate ban. wow!!! the guidelines are clear, and they are clearly not enforced... that is how i feel... and i am a person of colour, so my feelings are valid... sorry, but telling someone to stop reading something offensive and walk away is not the answer. it does not work that way...-0

In other words, if you feel offended over and over again, and thus report it over and over again, eventually you'll get in trouble enough to get banned even if the offenders never do. That's why I'm a blue gal now, no longer playing here, and have convinced a few of my friends to depart as well.
