I like the title of this thread. It's good advice. One thing I would change though, is I would remove the part about teams. I believe strongly that newcomers should beware freestyle, as a whole. Especially, starting them.

Freestyle does come with it's own hazards, but it's not intrisically dangerous in a free for all game like Standard or Terminator. The danger comes when you're in a team game and all the members of one team are taking their turn at once, nothing wrong with that, it's just difficult to counter. So I need to leave the team play element in, because that's where the peril lies. Thanks for the feedback all the same. :D

Very interesting topic. Today I discovered, independently of this thread, the high ranking players strategy and was disappointed.

True, it's not against the rules and you guys have the right to do it as you wish. Knock yourselves out.

If this was football, you (farmers) would be professional teams playing only against amateur teams and claiming that you are playing better then everybody else.

I found out the same way Natali. :| So now I'm hoping I can warn other players who don't already know. The 'professional teams' as you put are also taking as much risk in hosting/joining a game as anyone else here. The level of competence in any given team varies widely, as does the level of commitment of it's constituent members.

I've not looked into it much yet, but I do know of a few tournaments running that would help provide the structure and competence level matching that you may be looking for. Check out the Tournaments forum, but you won't bump into me there any time soon, I'm just playing for fun and discovery at the moment. :)

stalking? you flatter yourself... just tired of your non-stop bumping of your threads as they slowly run their course, people lose interest, and they die. deny that you bumped this thread, and i'll move on. otherwise, i have a right to report the bump, as i did. and the right to comment within your threads. you seem to really be confused about what flame wars is for. *yawn*...-0

Ignoring the blatant attempts to hijack this thread and getting it back on topic where it belongs! [-X

I'm hoping to join a few Freestyle Quadruples Speed games sometime in order to study simultaneous team player activation. This'll be moving the goal posts somewhat. Because in casual freestyle team games you have a window of 24 hours to take your turn and your turn can last no longer than 1 hour. However in speed freestyle team games you only have 5 minutes to take your turn and your turn lasts 5 minutes. :D

As with all speed freestyle games that usually results in players running out the clock to try and gain a last minute advantage, this will skew some of the resultant actions taken in the game, but should still yield some interesting insights to the tactics in use.

maybe you could present a paper at the next Risk Convention, that would be cool. you could put a table right next to the CC demonstration area, and wear a sandwich board and pass out your findings. this is all so fascinating. in all seriousness, you should go start a user group so people with some actual valid input will have a place to discuss all of this with you, safe from the mockery of the forums. just a suggestion...-0

p.s.-i hate freestyle, it feels like cheating when you play team games and know the other side has zero chance, because you are going to take your turns when they are not online and have no chance... the speed aspect you brought up should make it a bit more interesting. however, i just avoid freestyle, period.

Original post revised and reformated.

I've yet to join some more Freestyle Play Order team games, I've joined some sequential games but it's just not the same. :| Looks like I'll be adding it to my new years resolutions. :P

Shesh Owen.. If you have nothing constructive to add just shut up. Every one of your posts seems to be bagging the OP. Really quite pathetic.

I personally seldom play team games anymore because of this loophole.

Fact of the matter is in team freestyle games you can keep deploying troops whilst your team attacks. In single freestyle games you must deploy all your troops before you can attack. There is a huge difference there which I doubt was intended for team games to exploit.

If they can fix this loophole then I am sure I will return to more team games as will others who feel the same way. I play CC for fun and with the unfair terms really does not make it fun. Kinda like me playing chess against a Grand Champion. Sure I can create my own group and also exploit the game mechanics but I honestly think that the game was not designed to do this and I would rather play my turns when it suits me and not have to arrange times to play with other people.

Wishing all the non flamers a Merry Xmas

if the OP were even remotely close to being correct, i wouldn't say anything. but he is just overall wrong about more than half of his argument. why? he doesnt' know what he is talking about, and furthermore he continually bumps his own threads, which is a huge rule violation of the forums. on several occasions he has bumped his thread after more than a week of being dormant.

and seriously, telling someone to "shut up", when they have not resorted to any foul language, flaming or name calling isn't really a good way to get your point across. it makes you look unintelligent, cheap, base and unable to engage in a mature discourse. hurrah, you told me to shut up, but the OP is still bumping his thread and engaging in a one sided debate. in which anyone that disagrees with him is just wrong, despite knowing far more about the subject than the OP does. this will be locked soon enough like his other thread...-0

That's garbage. I'm convinced that you just can't help yourself.

owenshooter wrote:he continually bumps his own threads, which is a huge rule violation of the forums.

Also garbage. Read the forum guidelines.

owenshooter wrote:telling someone to "shut up", when they have not resorted to any foul language, flaming or name calling isn't really a good way to get your point across.

Total garbage, you have repeatedly accused me and the rest of the team in that game of farming, with the majority of the spite directed at me(if you don't believe it, then re-read your own posts). Even though I've stated time and again that if you want to take a pop at me it should go to Flame Wars, you have continued to dog both my threads in Strategy. The only possible logical conclusion that can be drawn is that you WANT them to be locked. So if you pump these threads with enough insults, spam and trolling you'll derail the topic and force the mods to lock the thread. Which leads me onto....

owenshooter wrote:this will be locked soon enough like his other thread...-0

Actually I requested that the thread in question be locked, did you bother to read Fuzzy's post at all? It's a rehtorical question before you try an answer it by the way.

Once again, if you want to rant about me, take it to FLAME WARS.
If you want to rant about my posts, make it constructive and post here, otherwise take it to FLAME WARS also.

Think you can manage that?

*Back on topic*
Cardz

I agree that it does drain the fun out of team games when when you get super-competative teams(not that there's anything wrong with them) joining a Freestyle Team Game and then proceeding to completely demolish the other team. I'm not convinced the Freestyle is bad, but that it is perilous, it should definately come with a 'handle with caution' tag attached. There's still plenty of fun to be had in Freestyle Team Games, I quite like Doubles at the moment. :D I'll move onto Quadruples again sometime, or Triples if that is all that's going at the time. If you're still convinced that Freestyle has flaws, maybe you could propose something in Sugs & Bugs? Mind you, quite a few players have made similar proposals before, so it will require some serious thought before hand.

Owen is right to an extent... the only thing you need in the first post:

If you start a casual freestyle team game, especially with other low ranks, a high ranked team will join when you are all offline and beat you. All of them will play at the same time, and take full advantage of settings such as unlimited forts.

Overview: if you start a freestyle, casual, unlimited team game, you are going to lose.

Simple as that... you can't win in that situation, so the rest of the post is void.

I must conceed this point, unless you have an as dedicated and organised team you don't stand a chance. So until such time as a player manages to put together a solid group for a team then it's best to stick to sequential. Sad though it is to admit. :(
