Look at upper left hand corner under Forum, now if you're at Turtle Soup, it'll say Turtle Soup instead of General Discussion. The same could be said about Flame Wars.
Otherwise, Flashing red lights with a skull and cross bones yelling WARNING-WARNING-WARNING WILL ROBINSON, you're entering the Flame Wars Forum WARNING-WARNING-WARNING!!! This would give anyone who truly fears Flame Wars a warning.

True, it does say that but if I'm involved in a discussion which I BELIEVE is somewhere else, I'm not necessarily going to look up there. Then again, I suppose I shouldn't have expected to hold a rational discussion with you on the subject. My attempt to show how to better keep FlameWars around meets only sarcasm from you. Fine...don't get FlameWars back...see if I care.

Now, now Woodruff, I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. But, don't go against Flame Wars, just because of one bad apple [myself]. I promise and cross my empty and shallow heart, that I will never use humor to prove a point against you.
Now let's kiss and make out...oooops... I mean make up. Forgive me? Who loves you the most? I DO! I DO!

Apparently, you have a reading comprehension problem. I'm NOT against FlameWars. I couldn't give a rat's ass if it's reinstated IF there is a provision for avoiding folks wandering into it through moved topics. Rather than attempted sarcasm, you should take a reading comprehension class.

FAO: STONEHAM & Woodruff

In the interests of fostering a mutual understanding, I think Woodruff's request is reasonable and not in anyway inconvenient to the other users. How you would go about this without drawing too much attention to Flame Wars, I'm not sure. A simple tag at the top of the page or under the topic name in the forum it formerly occupied(at least while it persists) stating that the moved thread has been moved to Flame Wars, would to my mind be sufficient.

If either of you would have a better idea then feel free to voice it here or maybe in Bring back Flame Wars instead if it's more appropriate to do so.

I think placing some sort of a tag under the topic name in the forum it formerly occupied is a fine fix (maybe make the notice colored, so it stands out). That should make it easy enough to see and, quite honestly, if it's drawing attention to the FlameWars forum, that's not really a big deal (if that's a public forum, of course)...if folks want to see it, they'd be interested in it, after all. If the FlameWars wouldn't be a public forum of some sort, then something else might need to be figured out.

I'm aware of that, but there are (in my mind) two points against leaving it as is:

1. It really doesn't stand out very well. I overlook it all the time, because of the coloration and location.
2. It doesn't indicate where the thread may be moved to (many get moved to Off Topics, as well).

What's the big deal? Any thread that has been moved to Flame Wars has been moved for a reason - because it has already achieved a high level of freedom of speech and expression. So it has been honoured by being moved to Flame Wars.

So you might get a little confused when someone is telling you to "Relax, you pointy-eared freak!!" But that should be your cue to take a look and see if you are in Flame Wars or not.

Oh, I always found the posts that said "Moved to Flame Wars for ..." quite helpful. I'm pretty sure it always meant the thread was moved to Flame Wars. Did you find the English confusing?

Hey mpjh, how's it hangin'?

I make serious posts here in GD. You need to re-read and try to understand the message. How you could you ever think that was a "flame"?

You are getting too emotional and wound-up. It is why you can't control yourself. You are flailing about with your flames in all directions, even to people like me that are trying to be helpful.

Regarding your uncontrollable behaviour: Save it for Flame Wars.

Agreed.

I wander into this thread and am greeted by a flame-happy mod that is still carrying a grudge from Flame Wars, so many months ago. Seriously, we talk about making CC a nicer place, and I can't even step foot into GD without being flamed by a mod.

It is a clear indication that people need a place to vent their frustrations.

Maybe a new forum?

Maybe call it Fire Battles.

So Andy,

I've been banned for less, you'd expect those who "represent" C.C. aka administrators should be held at a higher standard.

[CENSORED] was a troll and spammed numerous threads right after Flame Wars was erased. [CENSORED] attacked anyone and any idea to prevent their support for FLAME WARS from being discussed or debated. Was [CENSORED] punished or banned for flaming, baiting, trolling, or anything else with a similar ending? No. He was rewarded.

I'd like to remind you that this thread is about Flame Wars. What do we get for trying to be civil and have a real discussion on this subject? Attacked, trolled and spammed. Perhaps, now I'll be permi-banned for complimenting Prowler on his fizzle and bubbly personality. Perhaps, I'll be on permanent vacation for defending a poster who was attacked by [CENSORED]. Perhaps, I'll be discarded for some other heinous crime.

It's no wonder there's a atmosphere of unfairness going on in the forums.

Having premium members who get 30 day bans and lifetime bans is wrong, especially for the alleged crimes committed.

Andy, don't you think [if you're aloud to express an opinion] that the punishments issued are excessive, as far as the crimes are concerned? LIFETIME BANS?

There's no doubt that those who have been issued warnings, temp. bans and perma-bans love to play at C.C. and also would like to contribute their time in making C.C. a fun place to hang-out at.

Right now there seems at least to me and those who use to have fun in the Flame War Forum, that it's a US against THEM mentality. The handing out of banning punishments, like candy at Halloween is plain wrong.

C.C needs to hand out a blanket pardon for these alleged crimes to those who just plainly disappeared with-out a trace or reason. We the C.C. community needs to come together and have a REAL discussion on severity of these bans against paying members. Maybe, just maybe, we can have input from all the regular posters with-out retribution of getting punished for minor offenses. OR, maybe it's a "US against THEM" mentality that will continue on.

Regards,
General Stoneham

Few message boards tolerate flaming, but CC actually gave it a shot and created a place on it's forums to allow for such verbal jousting to run free. But it failed. Flames still occurred regularly all over the forums.

TheProwler wrote:Any thread that has been moved to Flame Wars has been moved for a reason
Exactly, a mod had to delete or relocate the thread because in was inappropriate or had evolved into a pedantic pissing match of derrogatory exchanges between posters. Some posters may have mistakenly thought that flaming others was okay, since the thread would just get moved to Flame Wars anyways. It is that repeated abuse of the forums outside of Flame Wars that I believe directly contributed to it's demise.

TheProwler wrote:-because it has already achieved a high level of freedom of speech and expression
Freedom of speech has never been the problem, it's how and where you express it that is.

TheProwler wrote:So it has been honoured by being moved to Flame Wars.
You can't attach any merit to a thread that was deemed offensive or deteriorated into pejorative gutter speak to the point where a mod is forced to move it.

TheProwler wrote:Any thread that has been moved to Flame Wars has been moved for a reason.
You may have been a little confused when hearing the often repeated mantra "save it for Flame Wars"
but that should have also been your cue to figure out what forum you were posting in.

TheProwler wrote:Oh, I always found the posts that said "Moved to Flame Wars for ..." quite helpful. I'm pretty sure it always meant the thread was moved to Flame Wars. Did you find the English confusing?
Obviously not helpful enough for everyone, as many still had difficultly finding to the correct forum for flames, even after seeing many threads moved.

TheProwler wrote:It is a clear indication that people need a place to vent their frustrations.
Take an empty five gallon bucket and write CC on two sides of it --plus the names of all the people on this site who frustrate you-- with a permanent marker, then take it outside and kick it around a bit. You'll feel a lot better afterwards.

How can FWs do this? By allowing flames across the forums and just moving them to FWs
when these abuses occur, as it was done in the past?
GENERAL STONEHAM wrote:2. Stop the excess banning of REGULAR and/or PAYING members of the C.C. community.
How? By tolerating those who regularly derail threads with vulgar insults on the forums, since the return of FWs will provide a location to dump all the threads that get torched and become offensive or deteriorate beyond repair with successive gratuitive insults.
GENERAL STONEHAM wrote:3. Bring back REAL DEBATE and DISCUSSIONS, with-out the fear of the C.C. Thought Police.
Obviously any real debate/discussion is lacking something when participants can't bolster their positions with personal attacks and derrogatory scatological references. C.C.Thought Police? Do you honestly believe there are legitimate topics that posters fear to discuss because of overbearing moderators that the return of Flame Wars can solve?
GENERAL STONEHAM wrote:4.Adding more flavor and flair to our poets out there.
I'm guessing this is a typo and you meant posts, but either way it still requires some clarification,
since there are few words or creative suggestions that don't find their way onto these forums.

No oVo, I meant POETS.

Now I'm a non contributing apologist of overhanded forum moderation? Much like the imaginative flaming contained in "ventures out into the sunlight, showered and shaved, he tries a polite flame. I think it fell flat."
I totally missed the logic that holds those thoughts together. So maybe you will consider sorting that out too as you explain how "Flame Wars will add more flavor and flair to our poets out there?"

On the pro-Flame War side of the this discussion I simply wondered what was perceived as it's three Best Attributes. Is being brutally fun singularly the strongest reason FWs should rejoin the forum?
