Ugh... this is how bad rumors get started.
It fits the pattern of behavior better than the idea of pissing in your pants over a cease and desist letter.
I have a post about it like 20 pages back

I am surprised at a few things...
1. that the contingency maps for classic and middle earth are so unremittingly crappy, when any of a number of cartographers could have been tacitly approached months or years ago and asked to whip something up in case this happens
2. that the changeover to new maps and terminology wasn't immediately followed by an official announcement from lack, rather than this ad-hoc thread-merging and have-to-search-for-them messages from twill
3. that there was never any real communication with the community before this went down, when a thread soliciting opinions about how to de-hasbro CC (or at least some mention that eventually the site would have to make some changes) would've at least softened the blow
4. that this changeover is the first gameplay-related change to CC in six months (since the classic touch-up in april, and no, medals and ratings don't count)
5. that management never tacitly got in touch with yeti and chip and other scriptwriters to ensure the smooth transition of BOB and CM and such
Suffice it to say that this is a disconcerting turn of events that leads one to wonder just how on top of things Team CC is. The shroud of secrecy, lack of foresight, and pretty poor contingency options don't reflect well on how the site is being run. I suppose the real question is whether lack views this site as a business or a hobby.
And not to get people down even more, but anyone thinking that classic and middle earth will have revamped concepts up and running any time soon hasn't been to the foundry recently. I would predict that we're in for the long haul with the Lucky Charms specials.

LOL! Sounds like a good plan to me! I guess if I'm not going to play any more, I may as well just post!

The "dice" are the same in function, but they are now just numbers. They don't own dice but they do own risk, possibly this includes things such as the use of dice and cards and so on in a game like this.

No but we can't play this game on that map. They own that. We can have world, but classic is theirs to selldelahoc wrote:Not at all. The continents are where they are. Hasbro has no claim on that. If they do, then they need to take every map-maker and atlas-publisher to court to defend it. Same with the territories for that matter. They can make no claim to the names of them (they do not own the words 'siam', 'kamchatrka', 'western europe', 'new guinea', or any other), and if they have some issue with the way they're divided up (or where the lines are drawn), then some simple, low-impact changes can be made to remove that claim.
Frankly, I don't think they have a leg to stand on with the map exactly as it was.

Incandenza - you hit the nail on the head. I almost feel like this site is a job of mine also. I have given many hours of my free time to CONTRIBUTING to this site. I would have gladly revamped the classic map with just enough changes to make it unique, and even better than it is. I feel like the management of this site are constantly letting the community down. Sure Yeti - you wake up to 30 games, that you can have fun with, and your grateful for it. I'm happy for you. You keep on playing those 30 games and enjoying the site. I'm also grateful for the 1-year free premium service I got for each of my maps. And the 1 PM Lack sent thanking me for it, and requesting I agree to give CC permission to do whatever he wants with it. And I didn't even mind paying $24 for my Italy t-shirt. But frankly - I don't like being so involved with a community, and then feeling like I'm left out to dry when something of some importance comes up, that I could have been used as a resource.
I have decided to stop making maps. I've taken the Brazil, Charleston and Iron Curtain offline. I'm going to take a break from cc. The foundry is dead anyway. Optimus, Incandenza, edbeard, mibi and all the other contributors - Thanks guys.
lostatlimbo wrote:Well put - this one boggles my mind. I could care less about a couple maps changing, but the dice? SERIOUSLY? This is absurd on so many levels. Change the color sure - but dice are dice and they existed LONG before Hasbro did.
What did Hasbro do to get CC to fold on this? Why the hell does "Attack" need to change to "Assault" or "Play Set" to "Play Group"??? These are BASIC terms that Hasbro did not invent.
I don't know who to be more frustrated with - Hasbro for being Nazis or CC for being bitches.
