Well, not certain of the accuracy of the stats, anyhow, have you guys considered its coming around final's season and that most students, both college and younger have some studying and what nots to do? 5000 is easily accounted for by college students alone who simply play alot less or stop for the sake of finals. I on the other hand, start playing games when finals start #-o

Another issue to take concern about is the release of other games. Yeah sure what does fallout3 or gta iv etc etc have to do with CC? Well as stated before, since the site is majority young people who probably enjoy games like that, they would prefer to spend more time with those games than CC.

-economic turmoil: highly unlikely considering that you can play for free
-mods/administrative things: also highly unlikely to affect the average player
-loss of classic: very likely to reduce current memberes as well as attracting less new ones (ironically, i restarted playing after classic was gone while I used to be classic, middle earth, world 2.1 exclusive)
-too many maps and features: possible part of it, there are too many tastes on this site and might be a bit intimidating for newer users who just want to play a good simple game of risk. it gets harder to fill a map you like with settings you like.

A bit more advertising could easily bring 5000 new members back. And like some other poster said, get rid of that ugly classic shapes map off the front and stick in some big names like World 2.1

Also like some other poster, I don't feel that this is a big deal that we've lost 5,000 members and comparing this to a drop on the DOW or NASDAQ is a joke. Losing 5000 members doesn't affect the average user very much, on the other hand, a drop like that on the markets causes loads of money to be lost by lots of people and companies which has subsequent effects on the economy and job markets. Somehow I feel that losing 5000 members on this site doesn't quite compare in the same way. I guess Lack won't be flying around in his corporate jet for a while

1. People get bored and leave - this is inevitable. I will not be buying premium again.

2. FARMING. No one likes to lose. With no escape for noobs it's easy to get sick of this site and leave after losing your first 10 games.

Noobs need to just play noobs without the fear of being farmed.

That would go in line with multiple suggestions in the suggestions sub-forum that present different ways to limit games according to rank and/or score.

I also belive that if noobs were able to avoid confrontation with too high-scored players, they would stay longer. Is not entertaining to lose again and again.

I am not saying completely forbiding low ranked players to play agains high ranked players. I am saying that it would be good for the site to provide that option. It could even be seen as a difficulty setting.

Any thoughts about why "off-topics" isn't getting as many posts as it used too? I've never seen it have threads not posted in for five days still on the front page

That's probably true. FW and TOB seem to be at an all time low for posts. I've never seen anything like it before. Of course it has nothing to do with the loss of members, probably has more to do with moderation.

I would be essentially a lifetime member if the price had stayed at, what was it, $5? Whatever, it was a negligible amount initially. However I do understand the legitimate desire, if not need, to charge more and think the current price is only about $5 higher than I would be comfortable with. I'll probably still re-up another year or so though at this point. So the cost might be costing them some members. Dunno for sure. Someone has probably done analysis to determine the best price point.

The whacked out ranking system might drive some away; if they care about that sort of thing. It irritates me a bit, but I play more for fun than score; so I stay on.

I don't see why the loss of the classic map would hurt since it's not really lost. It doesn't matter if you play checkers on a chessboard, you are still playing checkers.

The only problem is that new recruits don't KNOW that it is the classic map. They think this is some cartography website and they have no idea this site is for risk until they see the
"risk" board. Now that the board is gone, new recruits are confused when they see the front page.

Membership was $20 when you started and went up to $25 after what, 1.5 years? If it kept increasing at that rate the price might be a concern but I don't think there is any indication that will happen.

Well maybe that's valid.
You'd think Hasbro or whoever owns RISK would buy this site out. They'd likely ruin it, but maybe not. You'd think they would buy it out though and use it as an additional income stream as well as advertising for their RISK game and other games.

If you say so, but I seem to remember it being less than $20. Perhaps I'm mistaken. I certainly can't take the time to look it up...much too lazy.

From my personal experience, I doubt I'll renew my membership and the main reason is I'm coming across more and more jerks in the games. Someone ruining a games once in a while it happens... but now it's very frequent. It wastes a lot of time and takes away from the enjoyment of the game. It's too bad. Also, losing the classic map is also a turn off. The replacements just aren't the real thing and the randomness of them just feels somewhat cheap.

My opinion anyways...

Strange place for my first post to the site, but I've got to contribute. Obviously I don't know much about the site yet, since I just joined and started my first 4 games a few days ago, but I am not new to playing "risk" style games online, and not new to online communities in general. I found this site from chat between players on another site I have been playing at and wanted to check it out.

It does not help that my first game is a total let down. 2 other noobs and myself joined the site nearly at the same time, then joined the first open game on the list around the same time. 1 noob played a single turn and then has been a no-show and holding up the game since, and should be kicked after missing that 3rd turn, but it slows the game down a bunch. When you are new and trying out the site, and limited to 4 games, having one crawl at a snails pace really sucks. To make matters worse, the only player that is not a noob is calling all 3 of us noobs cheaters and is being a real jerk in the chat.

Yeah, I know... whhaaa whhaaa.. don't cray about someone acting like a baby in the chat. It just makes my blood boil when you try to play an honest, friendly game and you have jerks calling you a cheater. This is not the first impression I was looking for. I was anxious to try out a site where you don't just play games but you contribute as well, where you chat, and post messages, and contribute maps, and ideas for site improvements, but I'll tell ya, I am struggling just to want to stay online.

I'll get through these 4 games, and try some more, but I sure hope the next round of players I find will not act like 3 year olds that just had their favorite toy taken away.

Unfortunately there are a few such players out there in circulation still. There is something you can do to avoid these people in future however, you can add them to your 'foe list'. Doing so will block you from seeing their chat whilst in game and also prevent them from entering future games that you're in, unfortunately they won't get booted from games that are active at the time of being foed. Also you can still inadvertantly join a game that they're in, so that's something to be aware of.

To add someone to your foe list:

1) Click 'Control Panel' Under Personal Menu(located on the left hand side)
2) Click 'Friends & Foes' Tab
3) Click 'Manage Foes'
4) Enter the offending players name in the 'Add New Foes' box and click submit.

Adding players to your foe list can be done by click the appropriate link on the players profile, it's in emboldened letter so it sticks out. I hope this helps. :)

couldn't say, but I can tell you why I didn't renew my membership in Dec. when it was up, and perhaps there are a lot of others who feel the same. It seems to me that since a certain person was let go awhile back there has been a steady onslaught of multi's. Or perhaps I was just lucky enough to never run into any the first 6 months I was here.
I recently finished a 4 player game where I was 90 percent sure the other 3 players were one person. Since they get to finish the game even if I turn them in, there's no incentive to do so. So I just put them on my foe list and let someone else deal with it.
Anyway, it not worth paying for, that's for sure.

Well, now thanks to a Christmas break spike, it's only 19%

It is nice to see some steps towards improvement although sloooow they might be.
Banning Max and improving the home page are solid positives.

Now lets tackle the farming issue at its root, and the feedback system.

2 gold stars, Lack! Shoot for 4!
