p.s.-no way you are going to be allowed to start an open thread witch hunt in which you name members as farmers without them being formally busted by CC... no way. you can't even start a thread about why people are on your foe list!! again, if you have proof, go to C&A, don't run to Home Depot for a tank of propane...

I concur. Stupid idea to begin with.

Re: Letter to CC: Farmer List

Postby Fireside Poet on Sun Jun 14, 2009 8:44 pm

For whatever reason, the foundation of my post has not been expressed clearly enough. I merely was asking if a list of those that employ these farming tactics into a single list would be beneficial to the community. owenshooter goes off the deep end and babbles on about posting to C&A, which Andy rightfully backed up, however, that has nothing to do with my original post. I know the cases are for C&A and that is where they are posted and hashed out. I gave an example of what I felt to be a farming technique for those that are not familiar with what that practice is and asked if a list would be something of value, kind of like the government OFAC list. I was not making an accusation, but using an example of what I am talking about ... I even put the PS on the end (which was called gay by an obvious troll) explaining that I didn't know if KP was guilty. My post wasn't about making an accusation as much as it was asking if it would be of value to have a list of those that farm, even for something as small as clan recruitment. Perhaps it is counter productive, I don't know, but the reception to the initial post seems to have brought up some interesting dialogue, well, from some.

I'm done with this thread.

Yo, FP, come back...

If we can't make a list in public, we could make one in private. I think it would be hugely beneficial to the community to do as you suggest, and I can't fathom how doing so would be antithetical to the spirit of fair play the majority of us members truly value.

I only skimmed the first page of this thread. Maybe I'll submit another e-ticket (it was ignored, or refused, or something) to try and start my social usergroup The School Board, and we can do this there.

If people are allowed to continue farming, we should be allowed to unite against it. If we can't do so in the open, we should so in the shadows.

Right, but he did it when it was still okay to do so, and has since stopped. Also, he was really funny about doing it too, so it's hard to hold a grudge against someone with such a good sense of humor about himself. If he was vicious and douchey about it, like KLOBBER, it'd be a completely different story.

And I back 100% that the King_Herpes is a brilliant player.

One final comment. Shame is one of the most potent motivators of human behavior. If the mods were to allow such a list, it'd certainly cut down on the amount of time they have to spend chasing down allegations. Of course, this could become internet McCarthyism.

There are problems either way, but I think it should be given a chance. If it doesn't work, the powers can always remove the list and go back to the way things were.

However, I do think there's value in a "watch list" rather than limiting it to simply "convicted farmers". It could motivate the high ranks to reconsider their methods in filling their games, as well as make it possible for noobs to avoid getting turned off to the site, before they bother with premium.

Why are you so adamantly opposed to such a list, owen? Newbs don't seem to discover the forums for awhile anyway, so it would really just help us regulars out, and we could run a Guardian Angels type operation. Divide up the list, and PM everyone who plays in games with the farmers.

I see both sides of the argument (and can certainly fathom how it could go wrong), but still think it's worth trying.

if you make a list, keep it private, keep this list in a safe place, perhaps a safe, and then bury it in an unknown location, then secretly make a map of the location of safe, then you must keep the map in a safe place, perhaps, where you put the list.

The best way to solve the farming problem is to change how points are awarded so that farming is not rewarded.

The problem with that is:

1) There is a vocal, veteran pro-farming community.
2) There is a vocal group of players that don't care but like to shoot down anti-farming suggestions.
3) There is a vocal group of players that, while recognizing the problem, feel that it is intractable and that any solution would make ConquerClub less fun for them.
4) Lack doesn't want to lose business from people in groups 1, 2 and 3 so it makes more sense to ignore the problem and hope that very few will feel strongly enough about it to leave the site.
5) People won't leave because there is nowhere else yet to go... The maps and game options of ConquerClub keep people here, despite the scoring system.

Best thing to do is actively look for sites that could rival ConquerClub enough to draw competitive players away. Since these players are a vast minority compared to groups 1, 2 and 3, there will never be a business case for ConquerClub to change, but at least you can help us by telling us where to go.

I think someone should just make and post an arbitrary list of who they think are the farmers. That should really get things going...

witch hunt, period... if you find evidence of farming, turn them into C&A... already in this thread, 2 members have been falsely accused of farming. what would the fallout be for this? you do not have the tools or resources to properly do this, it is a witch hunt, period. again, you can't make a list of people on your foe list and why they are there, so what makes you think you will be able to make a list of farmers? lack has stated that farming is against the rules, and they have made positive strides to curbing it. for some people this isn't enough. however, a witch hunt list isn't going to solve it. 2 people were falsely accused in this thread. one was far too many for me at first. 2 just shows how asinine this thread already is.-0

I can scarcely believe what I'm typing even as I'm tapping on the keyboard, but the undeniable fact is I agree with owenshooter 100%(on this subject). If you suspect misdeeds you take your accusations and the accompanying evidence to the Cheating & Abuse Reports forum, no back chat!

Here is an example of how to report a suspected farmer, I hope you're all paying attention:
Subject: Alex951 - farming [cleared and noted]

That is how it is done, not with Name & Shame lists, understand?

Actually I was typing 'tongue in cheek', (it must be possible, I did it); I found it humorous to imagine an arbitrary list and the ensuing flame wars and arguments. Personally I think it's a, lets say, not too well thought out idea.
