The Institute of Maoist Indoctrination Methods and Nanny Statism, Changsha, China.

'Part work camp, part learning experience' is our motto and I think it is a good one. Every kid gets a free red book, a free Mao suit and bat to beat their teachers to death with if they act a bit bourgeios in class. Ranked 991st of out of the 6 squillion 'centres for moral repression and the limiting of free thought', it has been especially praised for its innovative use of bibles...students are beaten with them daily as a very visual and physical demonstration as to why Christians are evil.

Frankly, I find all the other schools mentioned a tad dull in comparison.

Well no....but it is based on universities here that certainly have elements of what I am describing. The genesis of good comedy (which I'm not saying this particuarly is..I'm just slapping my thoughts down because I don't want to go to bed) is the absurd somehow made almost reasonable and possible based on the past experiences or the pre-conceived notions of the reader. I was aiming for the latter in this case.

Anyway, having given away at least one of my secrets... ;)

Amusingly, it was probably more left wing: I actually went to Lancaster University (studying political philosophy mainly) and as the only Tory in the class, pretty much, I have to say I rather enjoyed the seminars!! Though I have taught in some pretty crazy places in China...until you have seen thousands of freshers spending their first week decked out in uniform, doing drills (3 bullets each), being indoctrinated in communist thought and tested to see which are suitable to become class spys (or monitors as they prefer to call them) you haven't really seen the other side of coin. Compare and contrast the booze-filled debauchery of an English freshers week..

Btw, that paragraph was all true George!

May the Glorious People's Empire of Peace last 10,000 years! 中国万岁! 中国万岁!

As fun as doing drills, communist indoctrinations, and the potential to become a spy may seem, that one week of booze-filled debauchery sounds a little bit more fun.

doing drills (3 bullets each)

Shooting drills where they can only use 3 bullets?

Hope by the time your finished college you can spell Apprenticeship or at least construct a sentence. Sad to see illiteracy is on both sides of the ocean.

Laramie County Community College, which is more or less a branch of the University of Wyoming, as many students attend both, and those that graduate LCCC often go on to the UW.

Yep, that's entirely true. There is a lot of marching, a bit of gun cleaning, an awful lot of flag waving and singing patriotic songs but only three shots with a machine gun. My poor wife told me that the bloody gun was so heavy and the recoil so great (as you know these girls are pretty tiny) that she pretty much fired three shots in the air, fell over and thought "Now I know I can't shoot shit". Actually it does kind of remind me of bible camp...indoctrination comes in many guises.

With regards to Robinette's propaganda point: the propaganda is without doubt effective. It is a combination of intimidation, playing to self-interest and ambition and encouraging the sense of being part of the mass = safety, pulling against the crowd = certain failure and islolation. It is very, very successful with about 90% of their graduates...leaving about 9% who just hate it and often leave the country (if they can and they usually find a way) and a poor, deluded possibly exceptionally brave 1% (or less) who choose to fight the system from within. I have immense respect for that 10%, they are why I stay to be honest with you...the rest, well you just have to leave them be. They are in general pretty happy (and that is the most important thing after all) and there is no genuine moral reason to attempt to upset their balance.

Well, having now thoroughly derailed this thread I can but say "Lancaster rocks baby!!!" and a big up to the College of Limited Expression and State Control, Hou Jia Tang, Fu Rong Road, Changsha, Hunan. You guys may be misunderstood (and possibly barely understand yourselves) but as the soldier bees in the hive you never fail to make me smile.

Must be nice rooting for Jimmer Freddette this year. I went to high school in the same basketball division as him and remember him absolutely trouncing my team basically by himself. Never thought he'd go on to score 49 and almost put up a triple-double against the nationally recognized Arizona...

I go to Siena College in NY.

He's a hell of a player, ain't he? Right now he's been missing some time fighting some weird virus or something, but BYU keeps winning the games. Up to 13th in the AP poll this week. I'm hoping we can crack the Top 10. Wait until next year when Jimmer is a senior and Hartsock grows into his own as a junior. It will be nasty trying to play them.
