In Standard and Assassin games they will go neutral, with the same number of troops he had on them. So if he had a 10-stack, it will be a neutral 10.

In Terminator games, they remain his colour. He can still be killed and you can still get points for killing him if you wipe out his last troops before the end of the game.

In Team games, his territories all go to his team-mates.

Anyone ever seen someone use this to their advantage? I could see certain settings in trench possibly paying off but I've never done it myself. Seems like it would be against the rules anyway

If it was intentional, yes. But it isn't always.

If someone is using it to their advantage, then isn't it by definition intentional?

Yes, if someone was using it deliberately to gain an advantage, it would be.

What I mean is, it could be a case of unintentional advantage. Let's say you have a teammate who holds half of Australia and you hold the other half. If he deadbeats out (unintentionally, because he left the site or whatever) you fall into a bonus that otherwise you wouldn't have had.

Granted, it's a hypothetical and unlikely to really work out in your favour, but it is at least theoretically possible.

I've seen that happening, more than once.
Also worse is in escalating game, because you get the cards of your teammates, so sometimes you go from 4 cards to 9 cards and double cash at the beginning of your turn.
And I've seen people complaining about it being unfair.

But taking your example into account, that means for 3 turns, you deploy 3 troops against 6 of the other team. Plus you're missing out on forts from your teammates.
And note that there is no deferred troops when someone is kicked out , so the 9 troops that you missed from your teammates deadbeating are gone.

So, if after 3 turns of someone playing 2 vs 1, the team that has 2 players hasn't been able to secure out bonuses that makes their win certain, it means that they would have also lose if the other player hadn't deadbeated, because they must have had terrible dice or strategy to have been unable to secure the win after 3 turns playing with extra deploy.
Usually one of the team is already winning or losing when the player start deadbeating, and the outcome isn't really affected by the deadbeat. And it'd take really special condition for someone to go deadbeat intentionally and being sure that the deadbeating will turn out to be an advantage.

It's a bit more of a game changer in escalating, - I've seen it actually turn a game - but it's also way more uncertain, because what if the other team cash and eliminate you or your teammate before you miss 3 turns - you can never know that ? therefore no one does that intentionally ever.

Usually having a player getting kicked out really can be a game changer if that player has been kicked out for violating the rule, because then it happens instant, without missing any turns. But well, no one is going to get kicked out of CC just to win a single game I guess

I agree with all of that, Don.

In practise, the missed turns will outweigh what you get, except maybe in the Escalating example.

Which is why I said it's hypothetically possible to have an advantage fall into your lap like that, but almost never works out in real life.

You got it, Donelladan I didnt want to write a lengthy thing out but you nailed it. And your closing statement thumbs up too. I mean I've seen it happen and was like... was that on purpose? But I doubt it
