Neg for Freestyle "walk aways"??

Postby gdeangel on Fri Apr 25, 2008 11:41 pm

Poll... this seems to happen a lot and is very annoying... I only create or join a freestyle when I can at least give it an intense 30 min +/-, so it really irks me if someone joins then gets a "first move" and stops playing real time... it's like they're pissing in my backyard by joining my game when there are plenty of seq ones out there!

Thoughts?

They can only play first in half the sequential games. That's a huge advantage, and as long as they can play every 12 hours, and when you're not around, they can play like sequential but always start. Good strategy.

If you want to play RT, there's callouts and chat to set up games. Don't assume everyone else wants to play fast (cause they can play more than 4 games, so they don't care).

Freestyle doesn't mean realtime. If you don't initially set up a game as realtime, don't get upset when others don't play it that way. And it's not a valid reason to leave feedback.

Well... I never have given a neg on this, but it just seems like a rude thing to do. Yeah, it's not against the rules, but it's kinda being a poor sport I think. Especially if a person plays a few rounds with you when you finish first, and then walk away as soon as they finish a turn first. Maybe it's a better comment for "neutral"?

I hate it when that happens tactically so they can break a bonus or something... but I respect it as smart (maybe a little sharp) play and wouldn't leave a neg. for it. If they didn't rely entirely on that tactic but had solid game play and just used it in the red zone, I might even give them a pos. But to join, play and walk away... somehow that just seems wrong to me.

Not even in the least. If you're in a casual game, your opponents have 24 hours to go. If you want anything less than that, you need to find a realtime game (via Live Chat or the Callouts forum) or upgrade so you can play speed games. You're the one who's being a poor sport if you're getting upset for someone not playing realtime when the game wasn't set up that way.

And no, it's not a valid reason for a neutral either.

as long as they take their turns... why does it matter?

the few freestyle games i play i treat it as a fast paced seq game. Its a little annoying at times but the better players adapt to this.

Setting a game as freestyle in no way implies that it will be realtime. It is another kind of causal, one-turn-per-day game, like sequential. The reason one might choose freestyle rather than sequential is obvious: if everyone checks their games at least every 24 hours, then everyone will get to take a turn at least daily. A sequential game lasts many more days than a freestyle game. Like people have said, if you want a realtime game, set one up that way in callouts.

You may find it annoying, but that's just finding it annoying when somebody behaves in a perfectly normal way that you are unique in assuming is incorrect. Breaking nonexistant rules of sportsmanship is allowed. In fact, you're probably being a bad sport by starting a game with expectations that your opponents aren't aware of.

"walking away" as you call it, is a perfectly legitimate and legal strategy, simply taking advantage of freestlye rules and altering their strategy accordingly. if you don't like it, don't play freestyle games

I've found the perfect solution to your "problem". Forced RT games (pronounced SPEED). You can play as many as you want in the next 365 days for only $25. WHAT A DEAL!!!!

??????????

I have always played freestyle games ( i avoid them though) ONE turn at a time (usually 12 hours or less for me) and now I learn that I should fear some freeking nerd elitist giving me a neg for not playing it like a REAL TIME game?

like WTF??! rude?

I thought FREEstyle was pretty straightforward and didnt need deciphering.

Freestyle only refers to when players can take their turns ffs
and has nothing to do with RT... so a neg is out of line.

Unless it is established with all players prior to joining the game
that it to be played in Real Time.

btw... sequencial can also be done in RT.

:-({|=where is the RT option on his games that the original poster (GD) is starting? are these private games he gives passwords out for? OHHHH, that's right, he is a freemium looking to play as many games as possible without having to pay for premium!!! such an agenda with GD!!! anyway, if you join a casual/freestyle game, you have 24 hours to play, unless you all agree to RT in callouts or something... doesn't sound like anyone is agreeing to RT, you are just assuming or hoping. JOIN SPEED GAMES... wait, can freemiums do that? hmmmm, sounds like most of GD's issues would be solved if he would pony up and pay for premium!!!!-0

p.s.-how is the freemium hall of fame and top 5 list going?
p.p.s.-if you spent as much time working as you do coming up with "wile e. coyote" schemes to get
more free stuff on the site for freemiums, you could pay for premium!!!

Possibly, but probably not. It takes a lot for someone to get a neg from me.
