How do I delete inappropriate postings in a forum [Answered]

Postby Hoagy on Sun Jun 28, 2009 10:40 am

Is there a way to delete postings that have nothing to do with, or are disruptive to, a forum that you have started.

Better still, if someone is consistently making inappropriate postings in your forums, is there any way of preventing them from making any more postings to your forum. Foeing them doesn't affect forum postings (other than making it hidden to the foer).

Have the person in charge just remove the person making the wrong postings. I assume this is a user group so just remove them. Problem solved.

Why are some people assuming they are postings in a user group?

They are postings on public forums. The problem is that there are a few people who insist on making rather purile and sometimes irrelevant postings on a forum. OK! They're just having a bit of fun, but they detract from the original subject of the forum.

The question I wanted answered is this. Is it possible for the person who created the topic to control the postings to some degree by deleting postings that have nothing to do with the subject, or do they need to contact the relevant moderator and ask them to do this?

You have to contact 1 of the mods, they can delete

and nope, we will not be able to do that ourselves

I believe he may even be referring to me. I posted my opinion in his cheating thread.

1. Put the person on ignore and make pms impossible from foed players.
2. Dont read anything you dont want to read.
3. Dont make threads that are clearly trolling and asking for responses that you wont like.
4. Dont be offended by differing opinions from yours, and understand different people have different perspectives on all subjects.

All of these should help you out dealing with unwanted opinions. However, its an open forum, and the community will voice their opinion quite often. Sometimes in agreement, sometimes in disagreement. It is the purpose of the forum.

I believe the situation he was referring to was him accusing alstergren of spamming him and abusing him with pms. The case is now closed as he agreed he was just as much to blame, and probably should not have made the thread in the first place.

yes or you can report that particular post and the appropriate moderator will be happy to take a look at it.

Hmmm. Thought I'd made it clear that my question was satisfactorily answered.

It would be a good idea if people actually take the time to properly read the previous material before drawing any conclusions.

These conclusions aren't even close. The reason for my question has absolutely nothing at all to do with what AAFitz is talking about (a matter that is hopefully buried and forgotten about). The question was put before all that happened anyway, and was asking about FORUM postings, not PMs.

Please Read This Before Posting Anything Else Here

I asked whether it is possible to delete postings in a topic that you have opened that do not pertain to the subject of the forum.

I felt that if this was indeed possible, then it would save the person who opened the topic and the forum administrators time by streamlining the way in which forums are managed, rather than having to bother the administrators with removing irrelevant and possibly nuisance postings.

What prompted me to bring this up in the first place was because I had set up a tournament and amongst the postings to enter were a couple of silly comments by somebody just messing about (it happens, I accept that). I wanted to know if it was possible to just remove them without bothering the administrators, and clean the forum up a bit so that other people would not be put off by all the irrelevant postings if they were looking to join.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To all the other people that have actually offered constructive and helpful advice on this matter, thank you.

you are trying to control a thread with 22 posts!!!! 22 posts, and the post in question was a suggestion on what the final map in your tournament should be... a bit control freakish if you ask me. the guy didn't troll your thread, he made a suggestion... and again, it is a thread with 22 posts. let's look at this comment you need removed, and your response to it:

i'm not a troll i just made a simple suggestion

he even tells you he was making a suggestion and not trolling your thread. the suggestion is valid. wow... let's get the mods RIGHT ON THIS!!! if anyone wants to see this incredible breach of the rules, visit the thread:
Subject: Cooks and Cadets Tournament I (8/16)
unbelievable... if this is trolling, CC needs to redefine trolling...-0

I actually agree with owen this time... you asked a question and a lot of members are just being polite and helpful and answering :) But if you wish to no longer get answers, then you can either just ignore this thread now or get it locked? which I would be more then glad to help you with the latter option...
