GENERAL STONEHAM's 30 day BAN

Postby Col. Hogan on Tue Jul 21, 2009 11:20 pm

As a friend of the GENERAL I'm relaying this message.......

Dancing Mustard's perma-ban was ridiculous and petty on the part of the Moderators. I also received a 30 day vacation for a petty offense.

YES, I criticized [in a humorous way] a high ranking player for making fun of my low rank and I received a 30 day suspension. WOW! Talking about a petty offense.

The Moderators have FLAMED, TROLLED and SPAMMED many threads that they have perceived as threatening their supporters and their twisted ideas of how to interpreted the rules. Basically, it is the Moderator's goal to be a "us against them" mentality.

Below is the e-mail I received from Andy.

Last month you received a Warning that your next infraction would land you a lengthy vacation, and unfortunately it has. RE: your post

viewtopic.php?f=31&t=91264#p2104121

Flaming, Trolling, Off Topicing, it fits the bill. So for now, you are on a 1 Month Forum Vacation. The next stop, unfortunately, will be a Permanent Forum Vacation.

I'd hate to see you depart from the Forums forever, so lets not have it come to that.

Regards,
The Conquer Club

I'm sure the Moderators and their supporters will villify me, but so what. What else is new? They got rid of FLAME WARS and now anything remotely considered flaming will be used as an excuse to boot the regular posters off the forums. Nothing like throwing cold water on the discussions in General Discussion Forum. The Moderators have a weapon at their disposal and will use it indiscriminately.

YES, I know it's a privately held company and they can do what they want, right or wrong. BUT, their use of the rules are not fairly used and their tactics of ganging up on posters is borderline fanatical.

I always enjoyed the FLAME WARS threads, with it's freewheeling discussions, suggestions, no-nonense bullshit and yes, attacks on one's character. But, it was done mostly in jest and most found it entertaining. I believe it made the GENERAL DISCUSSION threads more civil. Now that FLAME WARS is dead, we have over-anxious Moderators and administrators of C.C. who can't tolerate any real debate or discussions that they deem as offensive to them or their supporters.

Love and hugs,

General Stoneham

General Stoneham and I never really got along very well (different styles and all), but IF that post is really the reason he was given a 30-day ban, that appears to me to be really quite ridiculous. What was flaming about that?

I agree, that was no worse than any other post I have seen on these forums. I have personally done that several times. I bet they just don't like that avatar so they are trying to get rid of him.

WOW.. Banned for that? How the heck did I and a dozen others fly under the MODS radar? Bet he directed that fluff at the wrong player.

Not a fan either. However as a (too) regular reader of GD I can think of only a few posts that would have been flames. I suspect he fell into the escalating punishments trap. I remember he was vocal about the loss of flamewars in GD and probably racked up five or six bans in a very short period a while ago.

There was nothing wrong with the post in question.

Andy probably sees something wrong with the poster in question. Which is the key point.

You do realize that its against the rules to post for banned members, right?

I mean it kind of defeats the whole fucking purpose of being banned if everyone will post for you vicariously.

That is so ludicrous a post to be banned for I actually don't believe it's true. Given the context of the thread it was in, the timing of the post vs ban I'd say someone's being "creative" with the truth. If this really is what warranted the ban I reckon Timmy my pet spaniel will be banned next (peeing on the carpet may be an unwritten rule I'm not aware of for all I know).

Can a mod comment please to clear this up.

He deserved the ban just for criticizing a much better player and when he gets the permanent variety he'll have deserved that one too for being a useless poster.

Really? What the f*ck do you know about the context of that post and their relationship? Check the game chat. Check the thread title. Then apologise.

Why? I haven't criticised a much better player, I called you on your bs - which is a far from useless post. Have you asked DAZ if he was upset? Did you even look at the title of the thread? BK was fooling around with DAZ and they were both fine with it. BK may be an annoying dick sometimes but he doesn't go round sniping at people who can't defend themselves and gloating when they're down, big man. Why'd you bother coming in this thread to gloat? Hell, it's possible you might be an annoying dick but that doesn't mean you should be banned does it?

I'm waiting for an apology.

Basically, it comes down to this. I don't visit the forums a ton but when I do I notice all you flame war nerds out and about infesting the general board and I can't remember off the top of my head a single worthwhile post coming from any of you. Get over it.

I'm a flamewars nerd? Howso?

I could ask you to tell us what your idea of a worthwhile post is, but then I thought - I'll check his posts and see! So i did. You post in tournament threads, dice threads and this memorable wank flame in a thread entitled "Over 1/2 CC active players are private and below":

You starting the thread was rather elitist. I just escalated it to something that is more relative to me. Coincidentally, you fall short of the new threshold.

So thanks for your worthwhile posts.

If you've got something to add as to why you think BK should be banned for banter with his friend in a thread specifically designed for people to share banter with their friends please enlighten us. Otherwise stfu and get out of this thread.
Actually wait, you still owe BK Barunt an apology...
