t-o-m and Dancing Mustard

Postby 4myGod on Thu Jul 23, 2009 10:49 pm

t-o-m has been brought back, next on the list I believe is Dancing Mustard. So when should we expect the Dancing Mustard so we can throw him a welcome back party?

I would also like to know what the mods/admins plan on doing to correct these mistakes. Just unbanning someone isn't enough. Yeah apologies are helpful, however you guys really screw people over by randomly perma-banning.

I'm pretty sure the perma-bans aren't random. As well, I wouldn't make the mistake of presuming that just because the administration recognizes that they made a mistake in t-o-m's case that they would even consider DM's situation to be one (never mind admit it if they did believe so).

I am keeping the discussion alive. They close 1 door and I open another. The last door they closed was t-o-m's thread, which wasn't complete, just lost focus.

Calling the permabans "random" isn't going to help you state your case.

Agree with Woodruff on this one, gang.

I know I've mentioned before here that I served 3 years in the Felix Dzerzhinsky Watch Regiment before I emigrated so I have a little bit of experience in how the jurisprudential process works as we frequently were called to assist municipal police, especially in cases where working families faced discrimination or setbacks.

Often we undertook actions and operations, the nature of which may not have been clear or obvious to the casual observer and - in many such cases - public explanations were not possible due to the delicacy of the situation.

The case with DM may be exactly the same.

Let's have a little patience with the mods and admins, they have a tough job and are doing it well.

Thanks!

First off, nobody gives a rat's ass what you did/do with your free time. Quit pretending that you are smarter than everyone else.

Secondly, you honestly just said the "delicacy of the situation"? Its a freaking online risk website.....theres no delicate situation, period.

Lets just call a spade a spade. The moderators are way out of line on this site and are drunk with power. Dancing Mustard bothered them because he toed the line and was smarter than them and so they banned him because they didn't know what else to do. This website gets more and more pathetic by the day...

EXCUSE ME, can you please try to be a bit more respectful?

Sorry to go off on a tangent but you frankly don't know what you're talking about. You know, had the imperialists ever provoked war in Europe the WFD, the Combat Groups of the Working Class and the National Volksarmee were the first line of defense in repelling the capitalist insects who would have crawled across the Peace & Prosperity Line, in a spirit of revolutionary solidarity with the working families and farmers, of course. Despite the fact that the international banker's clique used surreptitious means to ultimately usurp power on the European continent we did an excellent job over many decades in keeping the torch of freedom lit across the whole of the eastern half of Europe.

As we used to say, "Loyalty to the popular vanguard of the revolutionary leviathan!"

Ok, you are getting caught up on 1 word. By random I mean, we don't know who is going to receive a perma-ban next, because it's not necessarily by what the user does. It is random to us. Who foresaw t-o-m getting a perma-ban? Not many people if any.

heheh what sport!

they know how to stoke the drama.. no denying it!

So let's look at what happened in the past short period (a short period in the life of a Permafrost at least):

Mustard- local celebrity, raconteur and Wolfy Smith lookalike - is banned for a minor infringement which may or may not have been against the rules but was certainly the last in a long line of minor infractions. The action is deemed by the chattering classes to be, justified or not, the expression of prolonged frustration by the powers that be.

Tom - Communist, shaker and cartograph maker - is banned for the action of exploiting a loop-hole in the Forum exclusion programming, he is warned via PM (though he can not read his PM due to being Forum banned) then website banned for ignoring the warning and persistent rule breaking. the chattering classes widely perceive this to be as a result of personal antipathy between user and banning Admin.

.. or is it!?

It's extraordinary that these controversial cases can occur, at such seemingly inconvenient intervals, coincidentally.

.. or did they?

These two cases are not without parallel.
T-o-m has a certain amount of cult status within a narrower but significant cross section of forum users than Mustard but he is enough of a character to be known by all the usual suspects.
T-o-m has a perceived value as a character and an unquestionable worth as a map maker, where-as Mustard is a 'love him or hate him', 'chase-the-dragon' type character but known by all and highly prized by most of the more vocal dissidents here.

Both were controversial and influential, both made concerted efforts to poke the system and both were banned due, in a large part, to emotional policing from the Admin at the expense of clear-cut, referenceable rule breaking (or at least rule breaking to warrant the severity of the ban)

Could this be an exceedingly subtle ruse?

*The cod-drenched fog drifts in from the docks, faint horn of a nearing freighter adds texture to a world full of intense silence. Don Andi De Monki and his Enforcer, Roboto 'Prime Rump' Ottimizi, are deep in thought around the Dons brand new, finely crafted, Italian Walnut, Office Desk*

Andi De Monki: "Dis aint goin our way, Prime Rump.. we need to throw dese yippity-yappity dawgs a bone!"
Roboto Ottimizzi: "Yo!"
Andi De Monki: "Wat we need is a gesture.."
Roboto Ottimizzi: "A 'jeeeyschuer', bawss!?"
Andi De Monki: "Yeah Roboto .. it's like when you only break a guys legs when ya really shoulda killed im"
Roboto: "... .... ..... ..... .... ..... .... "
Roboto: "... .... ..... ..... Ahhhhhw.. right bawss! "
Andi De Monki: "Get 'Da Greek' in here.. let's see if we cant show a little bit of our 'reazionable' ..... 'compaairshinate shide'!"

heheh well either that or Achilles really hasn't been paying attention to the Forums in the past couple of weeks.

t-o-m and Dancing Mustard were two completely different situations. The only real similarity is the timing. I don't think arguing the two are the same is really helpful.

I don't know whether or not they were supporting the same cause and banned for it, however I do believe the similarity they have is that they were both banned because admins didn't like them. An admin can think of a reason to ban anyone, with the rules being so general.

Now if everyone is breaking the rules, how do you choose which person you want to punish...?
