Ok for other players to take my turns?

Postby Symmetry on Fri Sep 04, 2009 5:34 pm

I'm not really sure about this one, but in my recent game Game 5453478 it looks like another player took over from the account that we started playing against without any reason given. Is it ok? The player who is now playing has a much bigger score and rating. Doesn't seem fair for him to take control half way through. Is it cheating?

Account sitting isn't cheating. dunewarr probably couldn't take his turns, and need someone to fill in.

Cool on that, and it's happened before. Just never had anyone announce it in the middle of a turn, and with no reason attached. i didn't report it as cheating because I think it's just unfair play.

it's completely ok. as long as it's announced in game chat, it's absolutely fair. it's really not any of your business why your opponent couldn't take a turn (do you really want to know that your opponent was having a colonoscopy that day?). rating someone low because they had someone account sit would be very poor sportsmanship in my opinion.

Yep, and I'm just going to add this as a reply. I'm not going to give the guy a bad rating, and I never had any intention of doing that. Indeed, if you check my ratings and feedback, I don't give bad ratings. I just tell people when I think they've been unfair. I posted this question here instead of cheating and abuse because it seemed dodgy. After all, if you play a game of tennis you don't suddenly announce that Pete Sampras is going to play this set for you.

I didn't like the fact that the sitter announced that he was taking over in the middle of the turn, and that he was significantly higher ranked. It wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game, it's just a courtesy thing. I was pretty annoyed when I posted the OP, and I shouldn't have been.

I shouldn't have questioned whether it was cheating or not, but it does still rankle a bit. I do think that account sitting should be announced before turns are played. And I do think that players who miss turns should at least acknowledge that they've done so. I'm not interested in an excuse, but a quick acknowledgment is kind of nice.

Real Life TRumps Conquer Club , Amazing how someone can get involved in all the political threads , pretty intelligently too , and then has an issue about someone taking over in the middle of a turn.. That just doesnt make sense :?

Ah- this is why you spammed my wall. Kid- a fair bit of decent Scotch trumps both real life and conquer club. Have a glass and calm down. If you feel like an argument, then put it in Soup or PM me. I'm not clogging up Q&A anymore than I have done already.

So after my water broke, I should have logged onto cc before going to the hospital to have my baby earlier this summer?

Incidentally, when I returned to the game, and told people why my brother had been taking my turns, hardly anyone in my games uttered a peep of congratulations (but thanks to those who did, as well as the fine folks on the fora). Not even the people I've been in a tourney with for months. And it doesn't bug me because they care about my RL about as much as I care about theirs.
