I would like to point a FOS at Neutrino also for being so keen on eliminating a possible townie who wasn't aware that the game had started.

Why me? What about all the other people who voted for him? Anyway, he is aware now, and still hasnt posted.
Generally I dont really care about deadbeats, but I dont want to see this game go the way of the Zombie one with no-one being lunched and the mafia winning by assassination.

I'm voting because I hate deadbeats with a passion.

Unless there is an ulterior motive (trying to not look scummy in the face of a cop claim), scum will generally never help lynch one of their own. Scum are also generally about 1/4th of the town.

So, this game started with 16. We're down to 13, but the godfather is dead. The setup is thus, probably, 3 scum, 9-10 town, and maybe one third party.

It takes seven votes to get a lynch. That means that of the 10 non-scum, seven have to agree. If we have 4 deadbeats, we will never, ever lynch scum. If we have three, then everyone has to be unanimous. Basically, the point is that every deadbeat counts as scum in the voting game. So, in absence of a good target, kill someone who doesn't post (and, more importantly, doesn't vote).

OID fits the bill, both in his behavior in this game and in his behavior in previous games. Plus, there's always the chance that he really is scum, and is submarining to hide that fact. Statistically speaking, scum are far more likely to submarine that town. So, I'd give 50/50 odds that OID is scum, and if I'm wrong, all we've done is lynch someone who isn't going to help us anyway.

that also means that it would require 6 to get a lynch and if 3 or 4 are scum it would require a unaminous decision on the lynch. Neutrino wanted to go for OID very early which makes it suspicioius to me and as such that is my choice. it is in the mafia's interest to go ahead and eliminate a "deadbeat" townie as well b/c that would quickly eliminate 2 people from the town right away giving the mafia a big advantage as they are pretty much guarantteed a kill each night unless there is a protector in the game. the games i've looked at has never had a scum get voted off right away by some of the other scum for deadbeating. they seem to go for the townies that are deadbeats.

perhaps but at same time i still maintain none of the ones i've looked at ever got a deadbeat mafia right away. scum may or may not post but they are more likely to try to encourage a lynching.

In the Werewolf game, with the exception of Anarkistsdream, the scum were silent the entire game. The almost won the game, as well, because the town kept picking off the people who were actually talking, and at one point managed to force a no lynch at the deadline.

There have been a couple of other games I've been in where we've found scum by killing submariners.

However, in general, you are right - killing scum on day one hardly ever happens. But, that's true no matter who you pick, unless the scum have made a dumb mistake. I'm a little bit suspicious of Neutrino, but not enough to think we should vote him yet. There's no one else in the thread that I'm suspicious of at all yet.

I'd also like to note that the deadline is tomorrow, and considering the utter lack of activity in this thread, there is a good chance that we will have a forced no lynch. I would very much rather lynch an inactive than have the game go to night with no lynch at all.

Despite the loss of two townies, it is actually better for the town to lynch a player who doesn't participate than it is for us not to lynch. The scum aren't going to kill an inactive payer unless they are stupid, because the more people who don't participate, the better chance they have of winning. Furthermore, the smaller the town gets, the worse the effect of deadbeats becomes. Supposing we have three deadbeats, if we don't get rid of them now, then come day three we have lost, because we will no longer be able to lynch scum.

One last consideration - OID has been close to a lynch for 48 hours, and it hasn't happened. If he were really town, scum should have hammered him. I think that makes it more likely that he isn't.

So, to condense : I'm voting because I don't like deadbeats, because lynching deadbeats is an incentive for people not to deadbeat, because I think there is a decent chance OID is actually scum, and because, frankly, for a day one lynch, we can do a whole lot worse than lynching OID.

As to lynching Neutrino - he's active. Which means, if you're wrong about him being scum, lynching him over an inactive player hurts us twice.

Yes it is possible that is the case, but at the same time I still think that he may be a scum just chatting a lot to try to cover up being scum.

I would be more inclined to do a deadbeat vote on the 2nd day and on. I just have my doubts about the first day how overly enthusiastic some people are about voting for OID before he even had a real chance. If he's still there after the night fall than more than likely I would be willing to vote for him, but not on this first day.

Mmmm. On the one hand, I agree with this; give the deadbeats another day to hang themselves. But, on the other hand, given how quiet this game is (only eight people out of thirteen have even bothered to vote so far), I figure that if we don't start taking out the inactives now, we may get stuck in a situation where we just get forced no lynch after forced no lynch, like the zombie game.

I'd rather do it today.

And, one more thing to worry about :

I'm hoping that, among the five people who aren't voting, three of them are scum. If there are scum on OID's bandwagon, we're seriously screwed, because that means that half of the town is deadbeating.

I hate to say it, but I do think that we may be screwed in that department since I'm thinking it is too much to hope for that all the scum are the ones deadbeating.

Well, I'll give it until tomorrow to see if anyone shows up; but, tomorrow is the deadline. If OID hasn't posted, I want him lynched.

Alright, I guess I can buy that. Sorry if I came down on you hard, but this game is dying a slow death of inactivity. Speaking of which, spinwizard is next on my list.

Unvote

the only person who i dont trust wholeheartedly is neutrino one for asking qus about how the mafia operates (all though if he has any sense he would have done that via pm) makes him look like he might be mafia

I also bring this into as evidence that I found a few pages back to further prove why I believe neutrino is scum

since no townie would be so curious as to ask those idiotic questions on here instead of on pm to pancake as they would be unrelevent to the game..

Well... Reading through 15 pages really gave me no clue what to do. So Vote: spinwizard, as stated several times, first days lynches are very important, so getting rid of dead weight should help.

*I'm going to "book mark" the forum. As someone else said (I forget who, i think Fircoal) I didn't know the game started.*

I know the confirm list thing was probably a mistake, but it would have worked if not for the godfather overuling.

You because no townie would be idiotic enough to ask questions concerning the mafia in the public thread. Yes you are a newbie, but if you were just a townsperson you wouldn't have been trying to find out that mafia bit so you signed and sealed yourself to being considered scum.
