To be honest I had forgotten about this specific rule and when herk mentioned the Punisher role I kind of discarded it as unlikely but considering this and herk's sudden mention of an obscure role that he seemed to go well out of his way to look up especially as an obscure role.
Yeah, saw that last night, then I went to bed. The more I look at it the more it all seems to fit. I will throw out a Vote on theHerkman.

karelpietertje wrote:All night actions together should be profitable to the mobsters, or they could never win.
This seems like a major oversimplification at best. If you follow that logic to the letter then town the night actions of town roleblockers would also be profitable to the mafia, creating some sort of paradox or something. Certainly some night action, like cop investigations, are by nature to the detriment of the mafia. Did you mean "all night phases" instead? That point could be argued. The mafia's ability to kill at night definitely seems to support that theory, although some setups contain a power role distribution that mitigates this advantage. As for how the mafia is supposed to win? If they are skilled enough and play their cards right a mafia group could be more successful during the day than the night.

Wow, you are all wrong. I found where i got the link now. It's in the mafia terms thread in this forum. Under the WIFOM definition. I was browsing the website and read that early in the day. When I went back to do the post count and links I saw that Mr. S said that in his post and I thought I would throw that out there just in case. Quite obviously if everyone who claims ends up getting killed we then know there is a punisher in this game. But that isn't me. You are welcome however for my mentioning of it to the town. Do you have something against townies?

Don't turn around that argument so fast. You don't seem to understand this isn't as obvious for us as it is to you.

FOS Herkman for knowing such an obscure role while being a newbie, and as it was already stablished, this explaination wasnt included in the wiki; in a game this big using some funky roles on the set up is not entirely unthinkable.

Stop skimming. I have already posted the exact link and mentioned which mafia I read that I saw it used in.

Sorry, I just think we might have one in this game. With the warning he game on roleclaims and that there may be "surprises". Makes me afraid to vote our doctor because then he will have to roleclaim. I think our game would be very hard to win with one of those...

Right, the mafiascum wiki the wifom page links to does not explain what a punisher is, it merely mentions it on three pages. Please link to the site where you're getting this information, cause you're not getting it here.

Seems convenient that after I bring that rule up you start saying that's why you warned everyone because you read that rule.

I already did. Stop skimming and reread the last several pages. It is on an extensive modding guide on the wiki. It leads you to a mafia called mindscrew, where the role has been used. STOP SKIMMING.

FYI, I joined in the previous page. Be happy I know anything about what was going on in the last few pages.

Also, the mafia you refer to is 30 pages long and the role isn't explained on page 1. You either have too much free time or are searching an excuse...

Vote Count

cena (1) - naxus
flores (2) - violet, freezie
lalaland (3) - jace, blake, iliad
aage (2) - fircoal, karel
naxus (1) - /
flow520 (1) - dazerazer,
dazerazer (4) - saxlad, sensfan, flores, haggis
the herk (4) - commander, strike wolf, edocsil, spiesr
nag (1) - pmc
sensfan (1) - flow520
jace (1) - nag
no lynch (1) - herk

16 to lynch. 3 days to deadline

Mod notes
1) The deadline is set and I don't want to change it. To be fair though, if no one has at least 8 votes at deadline (half of a lynch) I will do a no lynch instead. This way, no one will be lynched on a fluke.

2) As an aside, I have a specific way I balance my games. After I create all of the roles, I play the game as a random set up.

Day 1: I lynch a random person (or no lynch)
Night 1: all random actions
Every following day: I lynch another random person, unless an investigative role led to something concrete, in which case I lynch the concrete scum
Night 2: I perform random actions
Repeat until one side wins

My reason for doing this is that it proves that neither side has any inherent advantage. Whichever side that wins will be because the town or scum performed the right actions on the right people and lynched the right people. I ran this test twenty times for this setup (took forever....) and it came out as 12-8 town victory. I adjusted a few roles and did it again (skip ahead another five hours...) and got a perfect 10-10. So for all of you who are trying to guess my setup, just know that I made sure far ahead of time that this would be fair, regardless of how strange the setup may appear.

I read through some of the mindscrew games where this role was explained. Basically the mindscrew games are just large NV games like this one.

Scums advantage lies in the fact that they have a kill night action coupled with them being allowed to coordinate with night talk, not in having the majority of active night actions.

So, you've been reading mafia games before you even joined one? Or do you have mafia experience from other forums? And if not, did you read through anything else? Possibly any classic scumtells? Lists of ways not to get noticed as scum?

And I second this. Why would herk even ask about that role? Why not any other? Perhaps as an attempted ploy to test the waters, see how everyone reacts. Maybe if everyone had dismissed it, he would've felt more brazen. Hmm... the plot thickens.

OMFG six f*cking pages... Six of them! Since my last post! And I have to say a lot of it was just filler I had to sit and read through for like an hour (or at least it seemed).

Vote theherkman. I already told you you're annoying the sh*t outta me and probably everyone else. In light of new analyses (and the fact that you, herkman, keep posting crap and accuse people of skimming for things that happened tens of pages ago that someone could easily forget), I decided the case against you is stronger than my gut feeling that you're just a OMGUS newb townie.

On another note, MR. SQUIRREL PLEASE READ:

sorry I've been slacking on mafia... my show opened this weekend.

Thanks for the list, Haggis, and thanks for the deadline, Mr. Squirrel.

I really hope I don't find this post half a dozen pages back when I log on next... Please, have some mercy on Sully's old eyes.

I think you're confusing the Crusades mafia w/ this one. Saxlad investigated me prior to the game starting in that one. I was close to getting lynched.

I think you are confusing this game with Crusades. Thus confusing herk with sax...lad.

But doing some metagaming here- sax's behavior seems to be exactly the same in both games. And equally scummy.
