Chess! TG v. kabuki.mono

Postby TA1LGUNN3R on Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:36 am

Correspondence style. I'm tired of the computer kicking my ass, so I wanna play some real people who are as terrible as I am*. I will play whomever accepts the challenge, winner faces the next challenger, so on and so forth. In this OP I will keep track of contestants, wins/losses, and number of moves to a win, and maybe record the moves on particularly good games.

Here's a link for the general notation of recording moves. I don't care how you write it out, just be clear. I will be using the standard a-h left-right column (file) and 1-8 bottom-top row (rank). If you're Black then it'll be right-left/top-bottom. Winner will choose color for next game.

Feel free to discuss anything, just list your move first. This is now the section of the park where old curmudgeons gather to argue and play some chess.

*I'm no brilliant strategist, so if you're some 2500+ International Grandmaster, don't be surprised when you thoroughly defeat me. :) I haven't played in a while irl other than my computer, so I don't know current strategies and all that, just a normal player. Incidentally, I would like to learn to play shogi, but need to find a set to buy. If and when I get one, and somebody happens to play, pm me and I could set up a similar thing here.

First game to anybody out there, I'll be starting out as White.

I love chess (and I'm not an old curmudgeon), and would gladly accept you're challenge. Just be warned, I have a reputation for losing chess on easy mode. 8-) ;)
You can have first move.

Of course, silly, I chose White. ;)

Ngh3

Knight on g1 to h3.

Your move, chief. I'll probably check this after class tomorrow in the morning, or at the latest tomorrow evening if I still have power. Damn tree blew over in the storm we had here, now I've got a huge pit where I usually park my car. Just got the power back coupla hours ago.

h8? That would be your kingside rook. I'm assuming you mean kingside knight (g8) to f6. If you notice that you make a typographical error, feel free to EBWOP (edit by way of post). I don't know if you're familiar with mafia, but quote yourself, and fix the mistake, then state the error you fixed.

Pawn on c2 to c3.

Yes, I made a typographical error, the h and g key are right next to each other.

Yes, I play online chess too, against all different skill levels. This thread is for slow moving chess, which iss good for those who don't have time to actually sit and play a whole game in one session, or if you're to lazy to play in one session.

Thanks, oVo, seems like a pretty good site. The only reason I started a thread here was because I "know" people here better than starting on a new site (how well can one know an internet person?), and I think I would enjoy playing the peeps here. But I'll check it out, it definitely looks more refined for normal play.

@Val-- Good idea, I'll add that to the OP. I'll update it, though, so it's got the current positions, in case anything happens to my original set.

Also, I've got Queens on the D file and Kings on the E file, which is how it comes up on the program on my pc. Your post had them switched? Just making sure we're playing the same set here. :)

Oh. I normally have king on D set and Queen on E set. I believe that is also how most websites have it. But I'll play with it reversed.

Will update the current positions tomorrow after my calc test. Also, I think I'm just gonna put a pic there, it's quicker than re-labeling each square.
