An odd choice of symbol really. I suppose it's symbolic of Jesus' sacrifice and belief in mankind (forgive me if I'm getting my facts wrong), but I would've chosen a more cheery icon to represent my religion. It makes you wonder, how do these symbols become commonplace? Somebody told me, years ago, that the Jesus fish symbol was used to mark secret Christian meeting places, where one member would draw the first arc and the second member would fill in the second arc to complete the fish for some reason. It never made sense to me, but I'll look it up someday.
