nanotech

Introduction
The image above is about 9 months old. I created it back when I thought that making a map would be easy

At the time I don't think I'd seen any resource type maps on CC and I thought it would be good to have some kind of logical connection between the gameplay position and the armies you were handed at the beginning of your turn.

The idea followed from one I had for 'robot factories'. Essentially 'nano tech' is the same idea, but with a smaller back story ;)

The Idea/Concept
To create a map representing a nano-industrial zone. Players need to use their units to obtain the necessary resources to produce more units.
These resources would be 'power', 'silicon', 'metal' and 'DNA'.

There would be a power grid of some kind on the map. And at various intersections (imagine the pylons carrying a power line) there would be territories which - if occupied - would give the player concerned access to 'power'.
Similarly there would be regions/seams of 'silicon ore' and 'metal ore' which would allow players to produce 'silicon' and 'metal'.

To use these three basic resources players would have to occupy a factory. Perhaps the XML would designate full/partial occupation of factories as the starting position (like the castles in Feudal War) ... Either way a factory ('nano-production-unit' ?), together with these three basic resources would produce significant bonus armies for the player. Perhaps auto-deployed at the end of the production line ... ?

'DNA' would be a 'super resource' in that, with it, the factory bonuses would be doubled or otherwise significantly enhanced ...

gameplay element summary
Basic resources when combined with a factory produce bonuses.
'DNA' resource increases factory production bonuses.
Holding all resources of one type - the whole grid, the whole seam - produce bonuses. (Hence there are mutually exclusive overlapping continents.)
'DNA' as the super-resource must be hard to take and hold. Hence it will need to be central and accessible. Perhaps in the yellow area of the Concept Image.

The Image
The image above is certainly not a 'map' in any sense. It took me much, much longer to produce than its appearance would suggest ;). I am not an artist. You'll see a lot/all of the source is obtained from images of circuit boards. It does manage to represent some of what I feel about the Idea/Concept ...
I think that the circular elements suggest/could become army circles. Or not.
If the image inspires you great. If not just ignore it.

your thoughts ... ?

9 months ago there was only one resource type map (age of merchants) :P

anyway i like the idea as i was just thinking we lack sci fi oriented maps. we don't have robots aliens and stuff like that and it would be great to have such a map.

the image while it looks nice as a standalone image i'm afraid it is nowhere near what a map should be like. so you'll need a total redesign with clear terits and connections.

That'll explain why I hadn't noticed it at the time then.

Thanks DiM :).

I'm glad you like the general feel of the image. If there is further positive interest I'll revisit the image and try and come up with something more map-like. Any thoughts on just what direction that should take welcome from all ...

can you do a "grey goo" disaster area in the map? like one with 1000 neutrals, and if you ever get it and hold it for a turn you get 10^7 armies or something to deploy with.

cuz come on, we all know that if some crazy shit happens, it could be the end of the world, engulfed by a sea of grey nano robots
