Middle East Map

Postby Spiegelprime on Mon Mar 06, 2006 7:13 pm

I put this map together recently as I study the region so constantly I found myself thinking about the Middle East and Risk constantly, so why not combine them. If anyone has any thoughts or suggestions tell me what you think.

the Near East? it's almost entirely borders, and I called it Palestine (as a region) because I included the Occupied Territories...

Although it only has three borders, there are a lot of territories in Egypt that make it worth more than 5. I also think that there should be at least 6 'continents' in a map - just my opinion, though. You should make the borders more natural, too. Maybe I'm just picky :D

Nice map

I moved this topic to the map foundry.

Spiegelprime, I think your map is great and would be fun to play. You should review the map making instructions at the top of this forum and continue forward.

Oh, and you'll have to call Israel Israel, not Palestine. That's just asking for trouble :(

Agreed, at least 6 continents and 42 countries. Near East shouldnt be connected to all continents, and the bonuses arent good too.

Yes, it just seems like there are a surplus of territories on the Middle East map that have no purpose (ie. Khartoum, Aksum, Upper Nile, Darfur, Golestan, etc.) On the current CC maps most of the countries play a role in connecting to other continents -- not just being there to add countries. If you somehow fixed that problem I think this map would do well :D

I hate to say it but someone is going to be upset over what you call Israel/Palestine whichever way you call it.

I had a kid get upset in the middle of class because the map that the teacher used had the word Israel on it. This started a huge debate and people got really pissed.

You could call the region Jerusalem, that might not piss everyone off. It's a holy city for both sides of the issue. Just a thought, the site is not meant to piss people off. I thought I'd throw it out there You know because the classic risk board groups some areas, and uses the name of the most prominant section, like in South America, it has many more than four countries, but those four are the largest in their area. Thus if you scale the map down to just the middle east, then insead of countries you could use the most prominant city. Jerusalem.

Like I said, just a thought. Map looks great though. I look forward to playing it.

Just a question...what are the army bonuses for each "continent"?

I know the Israel-Palestine issue is touchy, but the idea of calling it Jeruselum is actually perfect (like the old Ottoman Sanjak!) and what about adding a 6th continent of Pakistan, Afghanistan, some of the Stan-a-stans and the Caucuses area? It might be a good way for me to kill some of the Iranian and Sudanese provinces that are kinda useless?

This map looks pretty good.

I think it leaves a little something to be desired in the aesthetics department, but it looks like a LOT of fun to play, and I love the font you used for the bonuses. What program did you use?

...eh, whoops, sorry. I didn't see the scroll bar at the bottom of the screen...the bonuses were cut off.

Although, I have to agree, Iran is far too easy to conquer, compared to Turkey. Both of them have 2 to defend, Iran has 3 extra total territories than Turkey...but I don't think that compensates for the 4-extra army VS 2-extra armies in Turkey...

A little more work, and it should be fine. :D
