I'm no programmer, so I wouldn't be able to do this myself, but my idea is to take classic, then put a Mirror image of it underneath. To get a continent bonus, you need both the top and the bottom. Maybe only having 1/2 of it (eg. regular Australia, but not mirrored Australia) would get you a deduction of 1/2 the bonus of that continent, (rounding down).

Again, I couldn't do this myself, just thought I'd put my two cents in.

I'd like that. I'd want to call it the dark world. Could Nintendo sue us for that? They do it in almost all their paper mario, zelda, and latest samus games?

Sorry, that last part wasn't a real question, I just can't resist a chance to point out Nintendo is not very original.

I'd play it maybe once, but it doesn't seem original enough to me. Then again, my standards for originality are kind of high...

Well, that's not really fair. Nintendo's done more to innovate the video game industry than Sony or Microsoft. The fact that they use their flagship characters so often is because people are more willing to buy the game that way... it doesn't reflect on the game's actual originality.

Sorry, but I couldn't resist the chance to support Nintendo.

It seems good to me. I'd even be willing to give it a shot myself with a bit more free time.

I agree that Nintendo is inivative. But I don't view that as the same as being original. They are the most powerful gaming company in the world, they could go out on a limb with a new game and still probably sell millions of copies of it. My beef with them is they keep making the same games over and over again with the same characters. Sure they change the gameplay a little from time to time, but the basic idea is still the same every time.

Mario & Zelda, You're still the same guy saving the same princess from the same other guy.

Samus. Well Samus is always just Samus and usely Ridley. New characters are rarer then I'd like.

Anyway, don't counter argue unless you have something more to say about that map... lol.

Not relevent to this map at the moment. If all the dark world text was more legiable (and a readable orientation) and the colors were less jarring would we want to do this?

Actually I'm pretty sure we can't do this because of demonart now that I've thought about it... Flipping someone's image upside down and changing the colors doesn't make it yours...

Ah, sorry I didn't elaborate, I was so eager to defend the Big N! Besides, I've had that argument so many times with my Sony fanboy friends that it's gone stale.

Anyhoo, about the map...you will probably need to get a whole new image, rather than inverting the colors and flipping it. Maybe you could do some kind of water reflection thing. Or, have one side embossed in and the other embossed out.

The general unoriginality of this map might bother some people, (like me), but you can't please everyone. I suggest you add some sort of gimmick. Perhaps you could do something like this: Make everyone start on one side, and fill the other with neutrals. Give the neutral side the classic bonuses plus a few extra, and have no bonuses on the side that the players start on. Each country attacks the corresponding country on the other side, plus the countries bordering it on its own side. What will happen is a sort of mass exodus from one side to the other. Eventually, the non-bonus side will simply become a way to travel across the bonus side, since it will probably be filled with ones. Now, to effectively guard a country's borders, you need to guard them on both sides!

I'm sort of a fan of the starting neutrals thing, (both of my current map ideas are like this), because what really can ruin Risk for me is getting a bad drop, or being attacked a lot before it's your turn. Starting neutrals help prevent all of that. It's not just me, either... look at the popularity of the Age Of Realms maps.

As a final suggestion, you could have all of the names of the neutral side be anagrams of the real countries.

"Did you just attack Kakamatch?"

I think it's one of the uglier maps on the site. Compared with some of the recently quenched beauties anyway.

i don't know. i think if we made some interesting rules, it could be confusing enough to be fun. like what I suggested about having to have to own both halves of the continents to get the bonus, and if you only hold one u get a deduction. i like the idea of being able to attack the counterpart. maybe if we took out some countries it would become smaller and easier.
