Gavin, yes I forgot to tell you.... Bosnia is the English spelling of Bosna.

But I also named the territory 'Bosna', because there is a river there called "Bosna" (which is how the country got it's name when it used to be under Serbian rule thousands of years ago).

So I kept the country in English spelling, and the region Bosna I kept from the name of the river. Does that make sense?

lol, what do you mean by spiffied up a bit?

Guest, I am not sure how I can deal with your color blindness, since I used up all the main colours. The only two main colours left which I can do is black or white.

As for "Eastern Macedonia"... I spent alot of time looking for region names in Macedonia, and while there are plenty in the western Macedonia, eastern Macedonia only has regions named from cities such as:

-Kriva Palanka
-Strumica
-Stip

So choose whichever one you think would be the most suitable.

That's okay then. I think if I look hard enough I can tell them apart.

for the colour differentiation, try making one slightly darker, and one slightly lighter, because at the moment, even though they are very different colours in hue, they are similar shade.
Decreasing the level of the texture may also help general legibility as it will make the text stand out more.
Good stuff though, coming along nicely
PS I like the sound of Kriva Palanka!

done

Postby mighty_serb on Sun Aug 20, 2006 12:34 am

After more hard work, and thoughful comments, I made some changes and wallah:
-NEW style for countries bonuses
-lighter colour for the river
-tried to change shades for the continents (don't know if I suceeded since shades look all same to me)
-and some other minor touch-ups.

What do ya guys think?

*I thought u changed Macedonia to a bonus of 1?
*Like the flag ideas in the key, but not to fond of the white spray paint on the border of it.
*Like the texture, much better than the last.
*Change the colour and font of your name at the bottom right, it currently looks as if the name of that country is Mighty Serb (what is that country?).

Very very nice map.

I also like the map, but...
*Just make the river colour the same as the ocean colour.
*Why not make the words the same colour as the country's flag?
*Montenegro and Ma(c, k)edonia should both be 1. Maybe u could do something like GavSid's India map, and make them both worth one, but if you hold them both you get like 4.
*Is Balkans some other language for Yugoslavia?
Is Dubrovnik actually part of Croatia or can it be somewhere else?

Good work. but...

1) Really the title is wrong.
2) I believe the best place to your name is near the title... Yugoslavia -by Mighty Serb.
3) You need add the names of all surrounding countries (including the one to west) or remove them all).
4) But I really dislike the legend: the rectangle, maybe it would be better transparent; flags (not necessary in my opinion) with different sizes; non-aligned numbers; colours very different from the colours of the continents; the font is terrible, too.

I agree about this texture being better, and rivers should be same colour of the sea. I disagree about change Montenegro bonus to 1. Will you improve the mountains?

Normally I agree with all you say.. this time total opposite..

1. I like the title I disagree there.. keep it or put a poll on..
2. I like where he has put his name its nice and for the most part out of the way a corner is a fine place to put the name..
3. I can agree with that.. and if that results in you moving your name then I can agree with number 2.
4. I like the flags but I agree about the continent color thing.

The rivers are better but I agree they shoudl be the same as the sea.

I like the mountains how they are..I'm not a big fan of overly complicated mts. I'd be fine with just the mountains of the brazil map.

Whoops, yeah I did change Macedonia to 1. I accidentaly used another copy of the map while I was modifying it. Also Bosnia is 4.

I am working on all the other things.

But I am confused what you mean by "make the words the same colour as the country's flag"
Which words are you refering to? IF you are reffering to the ones in the BONUS box, then how will people know which country in the box represents the country on the map?

Balkans is the name of the penninsula (but it includes Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Albania), so I guess it's more correct to call it Yugoslavia then.
Dubrovnik has been part of Croatia since 1991, but parts of it were in dispute between Bosnia/Montenegro/Srpska. It also used to be independant city-state long time ago.

What do y'all mean by "improve the mountains"? I kinda like them simple, but I suck at drawing so let me know what exactly you had in mind?

I meant to refer to some sort of highlighting.

You forgot when it was part of Venice.

You could use the one i put up in the Indian Subcontinent thread. Or just look up a mountain picture on http://www.alltheweb.com or something. Then take it into your drawing tool and clear off everything but the mountain so there is a white background.

map

Well first of all Yugoslavia is made up of Slovenia, Serbia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Croatia and Montenegro... So what is Srpska supposed to be?... That looks like Serbia in Serbo-Croatian to me. And what is Kosovo doing in there? You ARE from serbia right?... My parents are from the former Yugoslavia and this map doesn't seem completely right.

He/she, i think, is sacrificing the geographically right element of the map in order to make it more playable. It looks alright geographically anyway.

map

Postby Chiater on Fri Aug 25, 2006 2:27 pm

This is just a small comment on the look of the map. I'm not too crazy about that canvas effect on it or whatever its called exactly. A few maps did that and I find it looks kinda... like a quick cheap fix to what someone might think is a too boring looking map or somehting. Just having more subtle effects or something would be nicer... Like the world map and asia maps look really nice and theres no random canvas or pencil crayon or something effects on them ya know?

And it is waay smaller.

He had to give a part of Croatia(Zagorje) to Slovenia because it was too small lol.
We have many jokes about Slovenia.

What is the smallest book in the world?
Slovenian Atlas :D

What does Slovenia need a radar for?
Just for fun :D

Gavin, if I'm not mistaken this is a forum.and this theme is posted here, right?
so let people write down their opinions!
you don't have to read and the guy that has opened this post doesn't need to listen to us and make corrections in his map.

and what are maps for if they are not done correctlly?
so don't get so smart.how old are you anyway?10?

the thing is that nobody likes when somebody puts a name on something that is not true!
this map that is made under name of Yugoslavia can only be named GREAT SERBIA!
because this is what serbs are learning in schools.
some people can be offended when this map appears on this game because it's not only about geography but history!

what if Wales in U.K. was named something that it couldn't be?
wouldn't it bother someone who knows that it can't be right?

so let the people write, there is no harm in that!

Gavsid means that a lot of times, maps can't be exact. And people have to deal with it. on the map of the us, do you think i like west virginia being a part of the midwest? NO! but do I complain (much)? No! I sound a bit like a little cartoon kid on TV. And Yugoslavia was the historical name that the country ruled by. "Great Serbia" is the result of people being absolutely selfish! Every country has that issue. Every country, every person, has a selfish nature! You may say "I am not selfish. I do not love myself." But if there was a falling rock right above you, you would move. So therefore you love yourself to a degree. Yugoslavia was not called Great Serbia, and serbs are not the only people in that area. What if it was called Great Bosnia? Great Makedonia? Great Slovenia? Great Montenegro? Calling it those makes just as much nonsense as does calling it Great Serbia.

so don't get so smart.how old are you anyway?10?

By ur interpretation of my statement i have every right to ask that of u.

Happysad fun covered most of what i would have written in response to ur statement. I did not ask you to stop posting statements about the geography of the place, i just asked you and anybody else who wanted to comment on the geography whether it would be playable (thats what maps on this site are about). Even the classic map has many errors, afghanistan in true geographic terms is situated in the territory "india" of the classic map, the area they say is afghanistan encompasses central asian territories (like uzbekhistan and kazakhstan) as well as a chunk of russia, no real afghanistan. Since when did Ukraine encompass the whole of european russia?

Saying that i sort of get where you are coming from, before i had created my very basic indian subcontinent map i was more geographically orientated, after creating it, however, now i see that geography cannot always be exact, it sometimes has to give way for playability.[/quote]
