Do you think I should split this map off into a different thread? It's clear that we're not going to have the 51-territory map that the original post asked for.

There ought to be little gameplay quirks as well. For example, states that border the great lakes can use the lakes to attack each other. Ohio attacks Wisconsin for example.

I also think that rivers are an unused geographical thing. Why can't you attack downstream? I'd like to see the Mississippi have some sort of attribute like that.

If you're doing airplanes... why not have regional airports connect to the major airports which connect to each other? For example, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Boston airports all connect to New York which connects to D.C., LA, Atlanta, ect.

Or athensGA airport connects too atlanta?

You may be unduly quick to judge. I, for one, value honesty above most things, and I do not regard you as an enemy of any sort for it. It does irk me whenever someone bashes a map without offering a single bit of constructive criticism, though, so if you have any ideas to add to the map, I'd be glad.

army of nobunaga wrote:a ridiculous egocentric map... sorry... just my opinion... there are so many things/wars/conflicts/country s/epic sagas that have never been done by CC.... so far all these maps make me want to vomit.

At any rate, I really don't think this map interferes with the making of maps for any other countries, wars, sagas, or even things, so on that level you haven't got much to complain about.

well good point... But my criticism would not be very "constructive"

Listen Dimwit, You and about 6 other map makers in my mind RUN this site. IT is you backs that CC makes it. Without your new maps, I would have left a LONG time ago and I cannot believe im the only one.

Ill come up with a list of why I dont like It if you want.

But Id rather come up with a list of untouched things. Sure they are harder... Noone that I know of (have not searched) has ever even thought of lewis and clark, watts riots, louisianna purchase, american war of independence with a bennidict arnold... there are a LOT of cool COOL us maps left... I jsut hate to see a US state map. Im not excited, will not be exctited, and will play it about as much as USappocolipse.

That being said, im the first to respect hard work... you do all the work, ill be there behind you... I may grumble. I may piss you off... But ill play a map if a person makes it, just wont play it a lot.

You 4-8 people ... you friggin geniuses, you heros of mine... maybe I shouldnt always expect your best work.. I know you do this free. I know you cannot put it on your resume (well maybe you could) and maybe I need to cut you a break. Im jsut saying man.. there are some EPIC FUCKING maps noone has though of yet.

take away all of yeti_cs shit but his feudal... he would always be remembered.... it is epic. Same with waterloo.

take away one of the 12 europe maps? Well .... who cares. I dont.

Well, I'm flattered to be included in your shortlist but Ive only actually got one map under my belt (though another one on the way)...

I entirely understand your resistance to another U.S. map; I certainly don't revel in doing another map of such an overplayed area. I do like the Colonies-style-build-a-bonus-built-up-to-epic-scale idea, though, and perhaps there is a better setting and/or region that that system could represent. If you've got an idea for that, I'd love to hear it.

I have got an idea for you. What about a Native American tribes, pre-European map ? It is definitely an under-told History.

Ok going back a long way when I talked about stripping it down and working from the ground up, I'm talking about bringing it down somewhere to this level. I added colors to the states, just to make it something better to look at. I took out the highways and the extra bonuses as well. Although I have to say against my earlier remarks the highways may not be a bad idea after all. Well, actually I never thought they were a bad idea, just an over played one. However the work and could be worked back into if everyone else thinks it's a good idea.

However I have to say I think that the state bonus absolutely needs to be adjusted. +1 for 6 states? It seems like that will take for ever to get the game off the ground. Maybe 4 for +1 that seems a little more reasonable to me.

Also I re-evaluated the 3 different airports and I kind of like that as well. I realize I was kind of busting your balls before. Everyone has been. Don't let that discourage you. We're on to some real shit here and we need to keep moving forward even if that means taking a step backward.

Ps. Ohio should be broken up my the 3 major Cities: Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland. right now it looks like Toledo is a territory and Toledo does dick for nobody and that North west corner of Ohio is pretty much a shit hole that doesn't deserve to be it's own territory.

That's how I feel about some of the states. But it would take some awkward gerrymandering to get Columbus and Cincinnati in separate territories and still have room for the numbers and labels.

Incidentally, if anybody wants a transparent layer version of the map, I can put something like that together.

 I plumb forgot about Tish's map.

BTW, I do not think that army is a "hater". From my experience, he usually has something worth saying. You may agree with him, or not. But I do not detect any hate here. On the contrary. I see much fondness from him, towards this site. He is much the same as I am, in that he is NOT an ass-kisser, and often gets blasted because he tells it like he sees it. ;)

He is listed as a good egg in my book. 8-)

The layers are split up here, double size, along with full versions of the base map:

No room for the territory label in the south, and the inset map doesn't correspond with the main map.
It might work if Cleveland's label is moved offshore and the territory itself is kept small, like Anchorage and Baton Rouge have.

Well there was this I was working on, but I kinda split it apart. The one I'm working on first (The Powell Expeditions) is in the Gameplay Workshop if you want to check it out, and I think I'll work on Lewis and Clark after that.

Lol... its so sad but soo true. I vote for northern Ohio territory rather than Cleveland/Toledo. Columbus and Cinci ought to be represented as well. Just cut it into thirds basically. I think it can be done quite easily.

And I also want to throw in support for coloring the states Red, White and Blue. I know I did it with 13 Colonies and all that... but it seems to make sense for this map as well.

Red/white/blue for the states doesn't leave much for the icons. How about white/light grey/light red/red for the states and blue for the icons, borders and such? Or red/white for the borders/background, blues for the states, and white for the icons? Some combination like that?

I'm not wholly sold on those combinations... I think green and gold ect for the icons would be fine. I only think the states ought to be red, white and blue... perhaps with white borders...

Well man, I didnt mean to come off as an asshole as I usually do here. Problem is, comunication is something ppl have to work a and be gifted at. Im not so good online... Im great in real life, but online I come off as a dick. I can live with that. Just want you and others to know, no hard feelings.

Listen, you make it... Ill damnwell play it.

Just in this beggining phase I try to push unique stuff. Maybe too much.

good luck in this endevor. I see others excited, so like "who am I"? frick it... lets do a US map.. just make it special is all I ask.
