After another look, I might suggest cutting down on the sheer amount of one-way borders just a little. To me it almost creates two seperate maps within one to a certain degree.

i am highly against putting one directional borders on this map. they have no actuall reason for being there and they interupt with gameplay. Either take them out or make much less of them

+ Put the continent borders back the way they were.

+ Renamed the continents

+ removed the direction dial that people kept saying was wrong

+ also removed some (about 15) one way borders to free up the map.

@whoever said about there shouldn't be one way borders: they are actually there for two reasons. 1. on the moon there are basically two types of area, terra, and mare. terra is effectively higher more 'textured' land, whereas mare is smoother and low lying (and often refered to like an ocean). It makes sense it is easier to move down from the terra to the mare than it is to go the other way.

I'm not sure if the one-way borders are perfect yet, but that was a major step in the right direction.

This map really is taking off! (A lot quicker than a lot of others I might add.) Graphically, it is good (but probably still room for improvement). 3 problems I see right now:
1)There is 1 very large territory in Serenitatis
2)I don't really know which way the one-way borders go
3)The map is very heavily textured so how visible will territory names be?

added names :)

@robinj:

1: ????? there is not a big country in that serenitatis, do you mean sanitatis? if so the territory you mean is there to limit the amount of borders that continent has with caloris. i suppose you could think of it a bit like the ukraine.

2. they go in the direction the triangles are pointing and in most cases from a light area to a dark area.

3. take a look at the pic above ;)

It's awesome. I think the one way borders are good now. They make this map unique and getting rid of more of them will destroy that. By the way, how much free time do you have on your hands Bodmanbod? This has been developing pretty fast. I'd like to have your time but I can't do much on my laptop in between classes... haha...

By the way, are most of those the crater names I gave you the link for?

Not too keen on the font for the names at the moment, it looks a little 'video-game' ish, not in keeping with the rest of the map, but I DO very much like the directional graphics. Its a really nice touch and seems in keeping with the whole 'steam-punk' sort of theme you've got going (Jules Verne type stuff).

The one-ways are much better now.

The continent colours could be more distinct, it's a little hard to tell them apart, and as someone said earlier the territory borders could be more distinct too.

Actually, I like that font for the names. It's small and not intrusive while being easy to read.

I like the map...but maybe add a little more contrast to the colours and make the 1 way boarders more clear.

Add more color to the fades at the border of each continent. Don't increase the color anywhere else.

Version 11

Postby Bodmanbod on Wed May 09, 2007 11:16 am

ok so....

+ added more colour to continent borders

+ made one way borders more visible

+ removed territory border in ledger

+ changed the the army circles on terra to dark instead of light

+ added a bonus for controlling either terra or mare (large bonus for them since they are each exactly half of the map).

Ok so what do people think of this big change to the gameplay with bonuses for either terra or mare, i think it's quite cool to play on the fact that the mare is like a map within a map because of the one way borders.

i might change the amount of bonus for each, i think mare deserves a higher bonus than terra because of the tactical advantage that terra has...

+ changed the visibility of the army circles.

+ changed some territories from terra ro mare and vice versa.

+ changed the bonuses for holding terra or mare.

Please people i want some feedback!!!

Nevermind I'm an idiot.

On that note when you get army numbers and the xml done things will be a lot clearer. You know how to do xml?

Oh, and you'll need a small version with width 600, if you want to be consistent with the rest of the site.

i will say that risk is a tad confusing as a game ;) so anyone (everybody in CC i hope) that can get to learn to play risk can understand this map ;)
lol

anyway i personally think the map is nearly there..

mmm.... well army numbers i am not to sure on doing actually :/
i assume if i make each army circle a seperate layer the x and y cooords in photoshop will be correct? if not then i assume the x and y coords in photoshop work from the top left of an object... so that will be ok i think

although then the coords would be different for the small version :/ idk really, i may need help

as for xml it will be my first attempt but if i can do html and flash code then xml can't be that difficult, just time consuming :/

as for the making a small version of the map i can get that done very easily :)

The thing is i didn't want to do any of the stuff above until the map was perfect, unless you're saying it's perfect? in which case i'll get right on it ;)

I think doing more at this point would detract, so while I loath using the word perfect to describe anything, I would say that it is figuratively as perfect as it can be for what you are trying to accomplish.

If you want someone else to do your xml I know myself and a few others like the work. The only problem with it is that most map makers feel they should add the xml writer's sig to the map and you might not want to share, lol.

EDIT: Although now I notice you haven't signed this map, so I shall half assedly quote Lion King, "No Sig, No Sig, Tralalala-la la!"

well i will actually try xml before i give up and ask someone else ;)

i was actually planning on having no names on the map whatsoever (including my own). !shock!horror!

it is the xy coords that will offer the trouble i think

Borders

Postby JupitersKing on Wed May 09, 2007 2:30 pm

Maybe for the continents you could extand the colored 'haze' over the entire continent and make it more transparent. That would give us color blocks and make them easier to see.

Also the territory borders should be darkened or even broken into dashes to help clarify them.

Gameplay wise, I think zupus (the large territory) is too crucial. It can attack too many places, making yellow have to defend from countless places. I say you should make the one way borders attack zupus, rather than attack from zupus.
