Both this map and the Circus Maximus maps were borderline 'Hokey Pokey', but with the implemenation of diagonal attack's in Rock's map, and the options of choosing to take a ladder or keep going numerically stray away from pure 'hokey pokey' (I.E. 1-->2-->3-->4-->1-->2...)

Both maps will be interesting, but it's a valid stray away from the norm that could pay off and make genuine unique, and fun maps.

These are some good snakes and ladders I believe, they could be coloured in any way either.

And for the record, it's Snakes and Ladders, Chutes and Ladders was an adaptation of Snakes and Ladders for the american market, by Milton Bradley.

Hah, that made me laugh so hard when I read it in your thread.

Also:

Interesting point, eloquently put. I like the way you back up your argument with reasons, but:

Haydena wrote:And for the record, it's Snakes and Ladders, Chutes and Ladders was an adaptation of Snakes and Ladders for the american market, by Milton Bradley.

Yeah... Also the original Snakes and ladders dates from ancient times.

Also what do people think of these Snakes and Ladders (the ones haydena posted):

Snakes & Ladders

EDIT: AH? what's wrong with my image?

EEEEEEEEEEEeeeeep. Links just work better. Large images disrupt the flow of the thread, :?

---Anyways, I still like the idea of the tapered ladders...gives more of a flowing feel that you can go up. And as someone suggested, perhaps the scales pointing down like arrows... But those snakes are looking nice, they've curves like real snakes.

I might be able to help with the graphics a bit, I could do you a board like the snippet I posted... Haydena's snakes looked good. I agree that they'd be really cool with arrers on em. Let me know Qeeeee

I like the way the borders were described in the original proposal, where most borders were two-way (except for the snakes and the ladders). And I still think splitting Orange isn't necessarily a bad thing (although it might be good if you didn't have to go through too many foreign countries to get from Southern Orange to Northern Orange). And I rather like Haydena's snakes. And that's all I've got to say.

I think people should not be permitted to call the map chutes and ladders, though they are allowed to use the word chute when expressing displeasure at their rolls on this map.

I like Haydena's snakes and ladders - not a fan of the tapered ladder, looks very difficult to climb, though fbkins' numbering got style. Arrows or legend or both, no taper, sez I.

Don't forget to do it at extra-large scale, so it can be conveniently resized without losing much detail.

GO homogeonised... it's the way to go. Oh and thanks, I haven't really been working much on this due to busyness/frustration at graphics editing programs.

Wow! Impressive!

Just a thought, make the black impassable borders (I assume thats what they are) a bit thicker to make it more obvious.

Nice. My only suggestion (aside from what Haydena said) would be to make the two shades used in the purple continent a bit more similar to each other.

Nice, I think I'll use it. If you want to implement Jota's suggestion and send it back to me again I might use it that way either.

Just in case anyone's wondering, I have been working a bit on the snakes, but I'm having trouble getting the curves to look right, they either look jaggedy if I do them freehand, or else they don't sit togther right if I use a curve line tool... but meh, I will prevail.

I think that when developing a map, it's generally good to work at a larger size than you'll ultimately need and to just shrink it when exporting to JPEG or GIF.

that's why it's a link! of course it can be any size you like when finished.
Oh, and I just read that you went for homogenised, maybe I'll post another version...

...em... not that quickly, you see I changed computers, so I'm just getting used to this one. On the plus side, apparently Photoshop 7 has a snakeskin texture.

I'll get back to it, when I get back from going away (approx 15 July)

EDIT: Could you put the board back up momentarily Fluffy? I lost it when I changed computers it seems.

But I was planning to put a new version up with the tweak to purple that Jota suggested. Maybe I'll try today.
