What about we base it on a time-travel sort of thing. E.g. France named Gaul

America named New World, split it in 2 and have one half as "Independent Territories" and the other as "Fedralist America", "Union America"

Etc.

Yes, and we could have Native tribe areas in North and South America.

Would it be possible to use the classic art map but instead of using the names of famous artists, use the names of famous presidents, emperors, kings of those territories? So China could be Mao, India could be Gandhi (or Ashoka), East US could be George Washington and West US could be Barack Obama etc.

sure, the territories could've been named after anything. The post-modern artist names came about because the map kinda looks like a Mondrian painting - certainly more than it looks like a collection of world leaders. But I can see the benefit of doing something that would have a 'global' perspective.

At this point, however, I don't see that map changing much. Switching up the territory names is just going to anger people who are just beginning to figure out what goes where.

Not to mention that some of the areas are more generic than 1 country (see Europe) where there would be uber large arguments over who we use... for instance - GB/Ireland - "Western Europe" (France/Spain?) etc...

Hey, I got an idea for a Classic style map!

Darwin's Evolution of Species! We could include different evolution of species from plants to animals and to humans! That would be fun!

Image

another idea is maybe a Classic map based on constellations?

Well just for fun i put some leaders names on the territories. I reckon Atilla the Hun attacking Julius Ceaser sounds better for a war game than having Duchamp attack Man Ray.

New Classic

Postby maxatstuy on Mon Nov 03, 2008 10:31 pm

As we all know, the old "Classic" is gone and we were told that we cannot create a map that is similar to the Hasbro map. However, I was thinking of a new idea that takes the old Classic map and modifies it to make it different enough that it can still be used.

What if we took the original map and added an Arctic and Antarctic to the top and bottom of the maps respectively. Each would be three territories, and if the entire Arctic or Antarctic is held, would give an added deployment of 1 man per turn, or 3 men per turn if both are held simultaneously. The three Arctic territories would be able to attack Greenland, Scandinavia, and Siberia, while the three Antarctic territories would be able to attack Argentina, South Africa, and Western Australia.

Finally, the South America Bonus would be worth 3 armies instead of 2, and Africa would be worth 4 armies instead of 3

What do you guys think?

I and others are quite confused over this as many of us have heard that Hasbro has basically put ownership on the global Classic style map for ConquerClub gameplay.

Would someone please just tell me straight forward whether or not we can still use a global map for Classic gameplay?

With the New World Order gaining more and more influence in the world, why can't we use a global map that uses Unions instead of continents? EU, NAU, AFU, ASU, SPU, and maybe even a Middle Eastern Union. Change some attack points and/or country/territory names, and all should be good, right?

wrong -- the copyright could be restrictive enough to bar a world map for the came -- that would be a matter for the court to decide if a settlement is not available

It would be nice if they could give us an announcement telling us if litigation was involved or did hasbro just so kindly and give cc a dead line? U know just details.

Besides, right now, we don't even know whether it is Hasbro that is threatening the litigation.

I suggest we accept the constraint that a world map is out for the time being and concentrate on several alternative overlays and see how the game play goes.

This may have been said already (this thread is long, and I am coming in late)-- but what about taking something like the classic map and making it either:

Upside Down / Polar Shift - Australia would be in the upper left of the screen.
Mirror Image World - What you get if you held a map up to a mirror
Pre-Continental Shift-drift map - Smoosh all the plates together with barriers
any combination of Upside down / mirrored world map

How may times have you sat around a board game. Someone is looking from an upside down or side view.

Just some thoughts, sorry if they were mentioned already

BEST IDEA EVER:

DOODLE CLASSIC

Hi my name is wit and I've become edumacated about the Errth

Change Proportions of all terits, change names of Continents and terits to stupid things. Like Kamchatka to ComchotCah or Siberia to Cold or New Guinea to New Hamster. Siam-I am.

I like this idea a lot too. Maybe somebody could put together a different background for it so it's not exactly the same as Classic Art. But you're right, it's way cooler to hear big war names attacking each other instead of artists. You can just re-name the continents to be regions (aka Northwest, Southwest, Middlewest, etc...). Another idea is to name the continents empires.

Brilliant! Except it'd have to be so unintelligible and blobby that you would not be able to see any resemblance to the original map.

It'd be awesome though. Maybe a doodle World 2.1... That'd be insane. The small for that file would be the size of the world 2.1 large... *drools

Bizarro!

Postby edbeard on Wed Nov 26, 2008 9:40 pm

We take all the territories of Classic except do a cut and paste job.

No continent will appear only in one location. To reiterate, every continent would be split apart and not all be in one spot.

EG: Brazil, Peru, and Argentina would stay together on one portion of the map where Brazil serves as the only "border" for that section. Venezuela would appear elsewhere on the map making for a 4 territory, 2 border continent but obviously not in the traditional sense.

Why? It'd allow people to attack and hold many of the places in the world they live, love, and/or just love to say the name.

How? figure out where to chop. what to border what and how it should be represented.

Problems? How far does the Hasbro/Risk copyright go? Unfortunately we haven't had any real info on this but maybe Lack doesn't know exactly and/or is going through some process. no real need to speculate here. perhaps a PM to Andy and/or Lack to see if this is feasible if people have interest.

I'd be willing to be a gameplay consultant/direktor if there's someone capable and willing to do graphics. I placed this in ideas for a reason.
