Perhaps removing the parchment effect and changing colour schemes to something more light would help make things more clear...as for the impassables...I know it has been mentioned before so I am confident that that is being looked into.

I will be happy to give this a try. Since we are on the topic...do you happen to have an idea for the impassable borders?

I think trees would be a good idea. Or perhaps some stone borders like the ones qwert uses in his maps like Eastern and Western Front. I am sure he would help you with the impassables if you ask him nicely. ;)

I like both ideas. I know Marv mentioned the stone barriers like in Qwerts maps. Maybe I will do something similar.

It's still going andy....it's going slow right now with work and getting ready to start school, but with a lot of things brought forth, I am going to restart with a different feel I think. I'm not even satisfied with what I currently have. As soon as I have the next one, I will post it

My two cents:

I still find the colors (territorial) too bright. Too happy is perhaps another way to put it. I would prefer darker colors (like the WWII Eastern Front map or the Middle Earth map).

Also, the playable areas of the map are too small (but that has been noted already that the dead area is way too big).

Point is - don't see the sense of discussing army circle colors at this stage. Seems better to settle the territorial colors and the size, then look at the circles.

I appreciate your comments, however that is not the current version. I have yet to release what it will look like, as when I have it done I will have to get Marv's approval again. I thought that would be what the final would look like, or close to it so I was going on details. Since I am starting over, there will be other priorities first.

10-4 mate. I just saw the poll re circles and became scared.

I try to check this thread now and then since the Brazil map is one of my favorites. It's an old school map and I appreciate that Marv is active. BUT, I do indeed also appreciate you working on a rewamp.

The Middle East rewamp was brilliant. I hope you can do something similarly brilliant here. You’re a good map maker, so I have high expectations from this one. :D

I hope I can meet expectations. I think I am gonna go a little old school for the revamp, but I think everyone will also enjoy it. I hope I can get the majority of the community to like it, at least :D

Keyogi just did what I asked and removed the poll :D

Stay tuned

TBH The only things I hated were the parchment and the army circles but other than that it was in mint condition.

I will keep that in mind...thanks :)
I will keep that image on file and maybe tweak it too.
Right now I have started an idea that seems much better though.
Thanks for the encouragement though :D

Brazil Revamp
Original Cartographer: Marvaddin
Revamp Cartographer: The Fuzzy Pengui
Restrictions: Marvaddin has the right veto any suggestions or changes to gameplay or graphics

New Map! Older Versions available if requested, but nothing similar.
There are a few issues with this map that will be addressed, but I figured I should get this one out so the community can start doing what it does best  :P

The following are changes I already plan on making, so please do not continuously reitterate what I am stating, unless you can expand on a certain detail of my plans to help it be better :D.

Problem: The image is too dark. It was much lighter on my laptop, probably due to the 17" Tru-Bright Display .
Solution: I will enhance the image to have a brighter, crisper feel for better gameplay/readability.

Problem: The background is very dull. I am unsure of what to do, because of the odd shape of brazil, I do not believe that adding acutal countries (that would not be in gameplay) would help.
Solution: The Foundry Community. Here is your chance to do what you do best! Let me know what should be done, and I will try to do it to the best of my ability :D

Problem: The Impassable Border section of the legend is too dark and hard to see.
Solution: This will be solved when the whole map is lightened.

Problem: The text for the legend and for the title are not the green I expected, and are hard to read.
Solution: I will be lightening the text when I lighten the rest of the map. It will allow for better readability, and give the map a better feel as a whole.

Problem: The text for the territories themself are very bland, and a few are kind of close together. This could cause confusion in gameplay at a future date.
Solution: I will change the text so that they co-ordinate to the color of the their respective bonus'.

Problem: I currently have no feedback on the new image.
Solution: Critique your heart out :D

Image

I in no way claim to be an artist, but I see two major concerns with the current Brazil Map I believe I can fix.
1) There is A TON of pixalation on the current map.
2) The map is kind of small and could be increased in size to make the names easier to read and borders cleared up.

It may not be a "Great Lakes", "San Francisco", or "8 Thought's" map graphics wise, but I believe I can create a playable map that is consistant and has a generally good feel.

I look forward to all the future critiques of the revamp, I hope many will enjoy the new look when it comes out.

Thanks in advance :P

The dead area I think could use something more. I don't need intensive graphical programming and modifications, but it looks very vanilla currently. It does technically look better than the current, but if we have the chance to revamp it now why not take it to the full extent and make it more thematic?

Also, the impassable borders near Campo Grande, Oesta Pauliste, and Curitiba look too close and might confuse some people as intersecting. Maybe don't drop the border between Oeste Paulista and Campo Grande so far down. Likewise the impassable border north of Curitaba should not extend so far to the left. There is another place about in the middle of the map (too lazy to look up the names). I know you said this might be fixed when the map is lightened, but keep this in mind when you lighten it.

Also, with the bonus list, color coordinate the names to the continents! what the hell is Mato Grosso? I don't know! I could figure it out by process of elimination, but who wants to do that? I want to be able to glance over and see exactly what each territory is getting.

P.S. Map image quoted so it's not buried at the bottom of the last page.

This one definitely is clearer than the old brazil map, but graphically, it's about the same.

don't know if someone mentioned this, but the Campo Grande- Oeste Paulista border is not clear. it kind of blends with the unpassable borders!

This map is fine - I don't have any suggestions for you... I just wanted to chime in to let Marv know that I really liked the original. It was always one of my favorites. I actually like the "pixilation" and the colors on it. Very clean and somebody said earlier, it just smacks you in the face!.

I would never have suggested a revamp for the brazil map. In fact there's a kind of nostalgia for it and I hate to see it go.

The revamp looks fine - you have skills, I just wish you would have applied them to a new map :(

Now I feel really stupid...I could have sworn that I color coded the legend. I cannot believe I forgot this. Thank you for bringing it up, this will be fixed in the next update.

This was previously mentioned by insomniacdude, and when looking at it again, I realized the same thing. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, it will be corrected for the next update!

I appreciate your input, as well as stating that the original was good. I too like the original, but I also felt it was time for a change. That is why I am trying to keep it very close to the original image, however I am willing to change some as well. I am glad you think I have skills, but I don't believe they are that strong, which is why I decided to do a revamp for my first map. If all goes well, I will have original maps in the future.

I would like to take this time to agree with rjbeals.

Also for the dead territory maybe like a dark rainforest bottom feel just sorta overlaying over it at like 10% opacity so you get a feel of something but it's not overpowering.
