Peru map

Postby Davie.K on Mon Nov 23, 2009 11:02 am

This one just seems ripe for the picking....It has mountains, deserts, jungle and beaches that can be easily seperated into territorys....Just seems right for a new map.
If i could think of a style or size that would work...the Iceland map would be possibly an idea to follow

I love the idea but you'd have to try to get the altitude built into the map, otherwise you're really missing the wonder of Peru.

Part of that would have to be with the map design, part with the game play (altitude sickness penalties; mountain climbing neutrals; etc.)

I can try a small draft. I found 2 maps:

http://www.peru.com/PERUINFO/ingles/info_dptos/mapa.jpg
But the problem is that not all the rivers are territorial divisions, and so do mountains.

That is all possible if you create lots of mountain territories and have them as access pathways to other areas of Peru such to the coastal territories of Lima and Trujillo...just a thought :)

Looks nice. The numbers as abreviations are a bit iffy though. I think they're too confusing, how about using letters instead? Like, Caj. for Cajamarca and Am. for Amazonas... And Tit. for lake Titicaca :D

What software are you using btw?

Yeah... I don't think you need more territories. This could do fine as a small map. But if you insist on adding territories, don't put in neighbouring countries. This is a map of peru after all, so the other countries are irrelevant, and they have no place in the gameplay... Instead you could divide Loreto in 2 or 3 parts.

But as I said the amount of territories in the first version is just fine.

Scrap the numbers for territories, go for simple abreviations instead.

You will need bonus structure. Find out if there's any kind of regional structure in Peru you could use as bonus areas.

As for graphics: the simplistic grapihcal style of the map is quite nice, so go with that, but the map could use some more detail. Adding some texture on the surfaces would make the map look less flat. Drop shadows on the territory outlines will do wonders as well.

Ok I did the abreviations and took out other countries. Instead I added 4 ports.

Great. Ports could work. Now get crackin on the bonus structure.

Here's something I found from google:

Image

Based on that and the rivers, I divided Peru into 5 bonus areas:

Area 1: Tumbes, Piura, Lambayeque, La Libertad, Ancash, Lima

Area 2: Ica, Arequipa, Tacna, Moquegua, Huancavelica, Apurimac

Area 3: Cajamarca, Amazonas, San martin, Huanuco, Pasco, Junin

Area 4: Cuzco, Puno, Titicaca

Area 5: Loreto, Ucayali, Madre de Dios

Now put these on the map. Bonus values can be figured out later...

Lima is the capital, so I won't include it in any region. Thank's for the help.

Hmm, you probably should create your own thread, so that you can edit the first post, and keep it up to date.
