Alagaesia [Eragon] Map *New Look* [Page 3]

This is my idea for a general template. The underlying map, and the geopolitical divisions within the book make up the borders.

The yellow in the middle:
I'm planning on having as empty space, it is the desert of course, however, trade routes will go through, possibly with a post in the center.

White Islands:
The Dragon riders are central in Alagaesia's past, when they were at their height of power, the took the northern island as their HQ, for this reason, many of the continents will connect to this island.

Possible thoughts...
Ports, cities of the Red region traded with those in the purple.

Anyway, I claimed this map quite a while ago, and i've been wanting to put something out there, even if it is as rudimentary as this is currently.

Awsome, I love Eragon. BUt isn't Surda a major power in the book? and therefore shouldn't it be a bit bigger? or are you using an actual map of what the area would look like as a resource? Also, are the places from the second book mentioned? Could you include plains and caves where battles take place. Could control of a stronghold for either good or evil be a +1 defensive bonus for that country, and therefore could those countries start out neutral? I am just giving random sugestions. I like it, once it is divided up I can see why people would want to use it. But copyright issues could be a problem... All in all, an excellent idea.

just a thought, have vroengard connect to 2-3 far reaching parts of the map, because the dragon riders could just hop on their dragons and go whereever they pleased. thought that would add a good strategy/ movement bit to the map :)

cool!

Also, I do feel a tad territorial, just because of several past posts stating intentions to make this map, but there is a possibility we could work together or somethin.

before I continue putting more time into this, I'd like some comments from the community on whether it would prefer this version, and where it's headed, or the current version in the Eragon Map thread.

prefer this one because the other one will end up too much like middle earth because the desert (or is it dessert) will be territories. Whats up with these book authors, cant they come up with original maps?

This map looks weird, the shape of the territories is very strange... beyond that, many tiny territories, too, and others huge. The gray area is not playable too

Did you look for permission to do it? Even why, with that image as background, its possibly even more ilegal...

That's the hardest part, since the map of Alagaesia that we, the readers, are given shows cities, and not boundaries. There will be rivers, mountains, and forests added as non-crossing borders.

Right now, i still have the map behind all the layers, but I don't intend on having that in the final version, with that said...

Summary
The map of Alagaësia from Eragon and Eldest. Random House has allowed this map to be published and reproduced freely. This version was taken from EragonPlus.com.

i like the idea of the desert being no mans land. The territorries would just have to be the cities/lanmarks located in the areas

Update: Version 2.0

Image

Obviously I did a lot of work. Names still need to be added and a few boundaries will need to be adjusted, particularily in The Spine. Mountains and Rivers will be prettied up.

Impassable boundaries, trails and waves are tenative, as are bonuses. The Wind symbols all connect at the White Island in the corner, which will be more clear when names are added.

At this point I'm just looking for any disscusion on whichever parts of the map. I'll frequent the discussion, but I can't guarentee any updates within the next two weeks as my semester is finishing.

P.S. the lower legend is all words because the font I'm using doesn't have numbers.

Needs lots of work but could be interesting. i've never read the books myself. A big problem at the moment (apart from the visual look of the map) is the shape of the territories particularly in the mountains. The triangular shpa is horrible. try making them look moe like natural territorial borders. I don't know how your dividing the map up, however, so I couldn't really give you any ideas.

Well, for that area, that is the natural look, the Boer Mountain chain is made of huge mountains, within which the dwarves live. I feel that they provide some authenticity and orginality by having the general shape of mountains.

As I stated, those are merely temporary, as I'm not going to develop decent mountains until we know where they are actually going to be.
