Hosting company problem

Back in the day, I was part owner of a hosting company. The problem with uninterruptable power supplies and fans is the load is inductive instead of resistive. That is most likely what really took down the system, even before the generators were able to do their job. The smartest thing the hosting Co could do is install DC brushless fans instead. Things will still get warm, but it won't take out the fans before power comes back on line. They also should size the system for the AC plus all the computers, instead of just worrying about the computers. Even swamp coolers might do the job temporarily depending on the part of the country where they're located.

Good thinking adding to the clock, too bad it wasn't in time for some of my opponents... or not... ;)

Hey Josh,

Andy and I are looking into that one. We think we've found it (it comes up in a search for "grimms fairy tales") but it seems to be missing the forum and topic ID numbers which is stopping it from being displayed.

We don't THINK it's been deleted, it's just not showing up. It's probably a simple fix but we want to talk with Lack first before we do anything sill that may delete it permanently :)

We'll add it to his list for tomorrow.

If anyone else notices any other threads missing, please drop a support ticket to the Tech Dept on the help page so we can track them down and find the source of the problem.

Thanks for pointing it out.

So more people don't miss their turns.

Depending on where you live, CC might have only come on line after some folks' bedtimes, etc.

In this game, the whole log was reset to the beginning of the game. I and Blue had already played turns before the crash. After the crash I noticed that my troops were back to the starting position but Blue had lost 2 troops on Irkutsk(his starting position). Can this problem please be fixed.

Thanks

Lack is going to call it an evening. It's been a long day for him as you can imagine. Andy and I will be around for a few more hours monitoring everything and King Achilles will be here all night so if things go belly up we will hopefully catch it quickly.

Please submit support tickets if you have a real anomaly with your game(s), but if you're just missing a turn, please try to be understanding and not complain too much, this was one of those acts of God that happen from time to time. Clearly we havn't been holding enough sacrifices

We'll keep you posted as things change...hopefully it's all stable now!

Several opponents in my games now have less than 2 hours left on their "clocks". It does not seem that the 12 hours were added in all cases. Am I the only one to whom this has happened?

If you took that turn some time between when the backup was taken and the crash happened, it would not have been saved (all data after somewhere around 2am Eastern time was fried by the data center) and there isn't much that can be done.
If it is just a log issue, those are being restored (some logs were corrupted but the moves were not)
If you were moving WHILE the backup was being taken, then you're in the twilight zone and we're still trying to figure out exactly what oddities and carnival freakshow errors we're going to get from that :)

Your best bet is to fill out the support ticket on the help page and Lack will look into it. But don't hold your breath, who knows if or when we might be able to find the lost move(s). Your best bet, if it's ok with you guys, is to play from where you are and go for a rematch after.

We can do absolutely nothing if you don't give us game numbers.

Wrong place mate.
But ratings only show up after the game is archived (5 days after it is finished)

Hi guys,

I was at work (Rackspace support) this morning when this all happened. The data center had lost utility power, and a couple chillers did not come back on, causing the temperatures to rise. That affected some servers, and I'm sorry the database server was one of them. I actually noticed that and sent the ticket to the datacenter, but that was shortly before my shift ended so I wasn't involved any further.

Game 2653114
Round 8
Time Remaining
29hrs 45min 52sec

??????

I missed my turn, but it shows this.

I know about the 12 hours, but that's crazy, so you miss a turn and the other player gets time added.....sometimes I despair of the logic of the powers that be on this site I really do.

LOL. As I mentioned in my first post to these forums, I actually discovered CC when someone called Rackspace complaining that CC was down. I was the guy who answered the phone. :D

It quickly became my favorite site on the web!

Fruitcake - the time was added across the board - it's not something we could do on a case by case basis (it affected 20,000 games).

If it was technically possible, we extended time. It made more sense to have some people have long goes (it doesn't strategically harm most people) vs. lots of people have no turn (which can really change a game)

It may not be fair, but its "more" fair.

Other than that, I'm going to call it a night.

King Achilles will still be on for 6 more hours, so drop him a line if things go crazy.

And thus ends another day of CC drama. Who needs reality TV when you've got servers :)

Thanks to Rackspace for doing what they can to get us back up with a reasonably recent backup! They do pretty good by us.

If there are any more Rackspace employees here, drop me a line, I'd love to get to know you guys :)

Have an uptime day,
