Also, as far as new user friendly goes, I think it is as optimized as can be. If you are new to the site and the challenges, everything is laid out in one post. Adding too much information in the OP causes more to be missed. Last challenge, I staved off about 20 games that forgot trench or fog. The longer the post gets; the more the tl;dr hits and the more details get missed.

So, no response to me? This is already messy to me. I came here, looking for a new challenge and then got lost trying to find the old one and I'm an experienced forum user here. I imagine that others are gonna be more lost than I was initially.

Official Monthly Challenge for January
Brought to you by DoomYoshi and the Community Team

Some of you might remember a series of Unofficial Challenges that I (DoomYoshi) organized in early 2013.
You may also have seen that we have a brand new Challenge Medal (click that link and scroll all the way to the bottom).
Those two facts are, believe it or not, related - I have been asked to run Official Monthly Challenges patterned on those unofficial challenges, and anyone who meets an Official Challenge will receive a Challenge Medal!

NO SIGN-UPS REQUIRED - Everyone is eligible!
All you need to do is play in at least one game started between January 1 and January 31 with the following settings:

Settings
Map: King of the Mountains
Players per game: 3-10 [3 or more; 10 or less]
Game Type: ANY TYPE
Initial Troops: Automatic OR Manual
Play Order: Sequential or Freestyle
Spoils: Escalating
Reinforcements: any reinforcement type
Special Gameplay: MUST HAVE TRENCH; Fog of War is
optional

Round Length: Casual or speed

Medal Criteria
To win a Challenge Medal, players must score 500 points in games with
the above criteria.

Terminator Games will be scored as follows:
30 Points for a kill
10 Point for being the last surviving player
10 Points per game played
Standard games are scored the same way, except all kills go to the
winning player

Assassin Games are:
10 for joining
25 points for each player defeated
7 extra points for winning
-50 points for eliminating the wrong player

4p dubs is 60 for winners; 10 for each player on the losing team
6p dubs is 90 for winners; 10 for each player on the losing team
8p dubs is 120 for winners; 10 for each player on the losing team
10p dubs is 150 for winners; 10 for each player on the losing team
A quads victory scores 65 for each winning player, 10 for each player on the losing team
6-player trips is 63 for each winner, 10 for each player on the losing team
9-player trips is 93 for each winner, 10 for each player on the losing team

Notes

No fancy story this time.

------------------------------------------------

The settings that must be present are King of the Mountains, Trench, Escalating, 3-10 Players
Please double check and make sure you have all these settings set. The other settings are open. Round Limits are not mandatory, but are recommended to make sure all games finish on time.

Games can finish up to one week after the end of the month.

In a Standard game:
Each player gets 10 Points for playing.
The winner gets an additional 10 points for winning and 30 points for each player defeated.

In a 3-player Standard game, there's a winner and there are 2 losers.
The 2 losers get 10 points each, and the winner gets 10 + 10 + (30 x 2) = 80.

The announcement forum page, your post will slowly (as it is already doing) fall to the bottom of the announcements page. This thread is now the 5th thread down, when it should be the first or second since you have a new challenge starting at the 1st of January. Since the thread is old though it will slump towards the bottom slowly. Months from now it will be buried at the bottom of the list.

A new user is less likley to read a forum post towards the bottom of the page because those are "old" topics. That will lead to people missing the challenge post possibly.

I see what you mean, announcement threads are sequenced by first post, not last post. There is no bumping up.

This is not correct. Have you looked at the announcements forum? There are threads above this that have older last post times. All of the threads in the announcements forum are sorted by first post date as sirius says. That is where the problem lies.

It doesn't seem that hard to me. The current challenge is in Post 1. The old one is archived in Post 3. How hard can it be to scroll down 2 posts?

Ok, I didn't realize that. I never would have realized either, as I usually come from the main forum page.

No offense meant to you chap, I thought I was addressing your point.

You know as well as I do that this won't change. I tried to join one of his many KotM speed games but he has me foed too.

Site rules are often disregarded for medal hunting. Obviously that's not pertinent in the case of foeing, but there are certain triples teams inviting low ranks to KotM games for the medal.

yeah but for tournaments, clans, special events, BRs, there are "foe proof" stuff. would be good if something could be done for the challenges.

Tournament games (which is what clan war games are) ignore foe lists. I imagine the only way for that to happen here would he for DY to run each challenge as a tournament and make all the games, which would ruin the integrity of the challenge. If people want to be sad and foe as much as they do just leave them to it mate. Why not make your own terminator game and invite a load of unsuspecting players who've never played the map?

I can't do anything about it. Tournament games do not count for the medals.

For those waiting on Decemeber medals, I am going to wait until the end of the eligible period (Jan 31) to tabulate scores so I don't have to do it twice.

Some early stats on the December Challenge.
There were 279 games started. At least 30 are still ongoing.

I am going to start a working scoreboard and will finalize everything within the first week of February.
