A Long-Expected Party
(Yes, I borrowed the title from Tolkien)
This March we get to celebrate a new medal that many have hoped for -- a medal for playing on Conquest maps!
(If anyone is unfamiliar with the terminal, a "Conquest" map is one where each player starts out with with one or more fixed locations, and works his way out from those. On conquest maps, players do not start adjacent to each other, and must conquer some area of the map before coming into contact with other players. Conquest maps are among the most popular maps on the site. Famous examples include Feudal War, Peloponnesian War, New World, Poker Club, and the AOR series.)
As part of the celebration, the team of plurple, ShannonApple, and bigWham have launched a new map: Classic Conquest, which takes the rules of a Conquest map and imposes them on the traditional Classic map.
Coincidentally, March includes the St. Patrick's Day event, and the St. Paddy's map is also a Conquest Map! As an even more fortuitous coincidence, Easter comes fairly early this year (March 31st) and the Easter map also qualifies as a Conquest Map!
This month's Challenge will give you a great deal of freedom in how to earn your points. The only mandatory requirement is a win on the new Classic Conquest map. Other medals will give you many more choices.
For a Bronze or Silver medal, we have a limited but fairly broad selection of the most popular Conquest maps on the site. 2-player games give Bronze medals, 6-player games give Silver.
For a Gold medal, you must play on the new Classic Conquest map. You may choose five to eight player games. You must get at least one Gold medal to pass the Challenge.
Platinum medals can be gained by victories on the Easter or St. Patrick's Day maps. Note that these special event maps will only be open for a short period near the end of the month! Think of them as Points After!
