Looking for advice, was looking to put a drywall plastic anchor for a little towel holder.
Was using a little 1/4 drill to make the hole as it said to, but right where i needed to drill was a
metal bit to protect a corner of the wall.

having not had any similar previous home improvement experience, i thought the drill would go thru it. clearly
it wasn't made to...im sure a hammer n nail would go thru, but i want to put a nice, secure stabilzed screw into the wall
to support the stupid aforementioned towel holder.

What's the proper way to do it? would the screw itself puncture the metal bit, or is there some other (better)
method? I dont want to trash the wall trying all kinds of things, thats why im looking for a suggestion before i try again.

Metal to protect the wall corner? If it is simply a corner piece for sheetrock, then drill thru it as you intended....if, however, it's a nail plate then it is there to protect something like wiring or pipes that you most definitely do NOT want to drill into!

Well, it traverses the entirety of the corner so my guess is its a sheetrock corner piece etc. I did try to drill thru it with the 1/4 but it didn't go thru, the tip started to "wander" so i stopped until i got more / better advice.

I'm 99.9% certain it has nothing todo with wiring. And you know how often that 0.01% comes up in CC right...? So i should totally just auto it

Get a drill bit that works on metal

Punch a divot in it with a nail and it wont wander

If you are within 1" of the corner it's just cornerbead, so no big deal to drill through. Only thing is, your plastic anchor won't work, since you have a wall stud there. But you can use screws.

You need a metal bit. They have tighter grooves. Also, use less pressure than you would for wood, or definitely for drywall. have patience, but it will work.

Further, if there is metal, then you can use, should use a different kind of anchor. Look at the labels in your hardware store or ask for help on this. (there are different styles, different names.. depends on the size, weight, etc.) Be sure you really want that hole there, because it will be fairly permanent.

I ended up punching a hole w/ a nail and hammer, pulled it out and used a smaller drill bit. then after that, i used the 1/4 and completed the hole. It all worked out, anchors in place, and project completed.
