How correct are the public choice economists? I think very much so.

Many politicians simply pander to the median voter, and especially the voter's preferences. People aren't really voting on policy; they're voting on the expectation of having their moral views imposed on others. That's what Santorum, Obama, Romney, etc. offer, and it works.

People just don't realize this, so they'll keep voting accordingly.

It's a great racket for the mainstream politicians, but it's not so great for the Americans in the long-run. (continued deficit spending, war expenditures, expansionary monetary policy, etc.).

And you criticise me when I say that your vision of free market solutions sounds increasingly like the talk of communist revolutionaries? You're getting closer and closer.

Public choice != "free markets"

I'm simply explaining what has led us to where we are. One of the problems is that too much political control is exerted over economic decision making at the national level. That, and ignoring the Constitution doesn't help.
