This is ridiculous, I've been calling tech support for more than 6 months now, they are not supposed to close a report without contacting me first to make sure the service is working 100%, but they keep closing every report I make.
Of course, there's no competing ISPs here, otherwise I'd change company.
FUCKING CARLOS SLIM DE MIERDA, the richest man in the world has Mexico in technologic slavery.

What laws prevent competitors from setting up shop in your area?

No one. The reason is probably that they are not interested yet. And the reason Slim's company is here is because he bought Telmex from former president Carlos Salinas, his buddy, for a dime or maybe a quarter. So he didn't have to spend in infrastructure.
One thing is for sure though, the moment another ISP decides to come here, Slim will send a line of optic fiber killing the competitor's chances.

How much is internet access via satellite?
And this was interesting:
[quote'"wiki"]In 1972, the Mexican government bought the company, turning it into a government monopoly.
In 1990, Telmex was bought by a group of investors formed principally by Carlos Slim Helú, France Télécom, and Southwestern Bell Corporation, whose tender was the largest. However, controversially, the payment itself took place over the course of the next several years, using revenues from the phone service.
After privatization, Telmex began investing in new modern infrastructure, creating a nationwide fiber optic network, thus offering service to most of the country.
In 1991, the Mexican government sold its remaining stock in Telmex.
Although Telmex is now a private company it stills remains as a quasi-monopoly. There are few other telephone companies in Mexico, Alestra (formerly AT&T), Axtel, Maxcom, Megacable and Cablecom

I suggest North Korea (they're a superpower, don't deny it).
I hear they have a high-speed linkup to that website about The Glorious Leader™, but every other page is censored.
Contact sexitoxin for more information, but I didn't tell you.
