The Curse of the Bambino

Postby oVo on Sat Apr 21, 2012 6:31 pm

Has returned to Fenway Park as the Yankees have just erased a 9-0 Red Sox lead.
It's the top of the 8th and NY has taken a 12-9 lead with no outs & bases loaded.

On the west coast Chicago White Sox pitcher Phil Humber tosses a no hitter.
The 21st perfect game in MLB history and the third against the Mariners.

A no hitter isn't the same thing as a perfect game.

A no hitter can include a walk. A perfect game doesn't.

In the perfect game, the last out wasn't out. It was a BB. The batter clearly didn't cross the bat.

In contrast with Galarraga's perfect game when the 1B umpire called safe the 27th out.

About the Red Sox: might it be possible that the pitching problems is cause of the catcher? Just asking, have nothing against Saltalamachia.

Pitching can definitely be a problem. Last night Justin Verlander shut down the Rangers for 7 innings and a two run lead before the bullpen took over. Benoit & Valverde tossed 60 pitches in the final two frames and nearly let it get away. The Red Sox game was a real stunner though. Tonight's Yankees/Red Sox game was cancelled because Boston's crocodile tears left them too dehydrated to play, but the league is referring to it as inclement weather.

Phil Humber did record MLB's 21st perfect game yesterday in Seattle.
