Hockey all time teams

Postby Gillipig on Tue May 15, 2012 5:13 am

While the IIHF is still udner way I thought I'd share my all time teams for some of the countries involved.

I take into account the chemistry of lines so some players might be on a lower line due to chemistry factors.
I like to have a grinding fourth line if I don't have to waste too much talent.
I like to make the third lines D-men very hard to play against as they will go up against the other teams first line.
When it comes to goalies I prefer those who have a few top notch seasons over those with plenty of average seasons.

All time Slovakia team:

LW Peter Bondra C Peter Stastny RW Ziggy Palffy
LW Miroslav Satan C Stan Mikita RW Marian Hossa
LW Anton Stastny C Pavol Demitra RW Marian Gaborik
LW Vladimir Orszagh C Michal Handzus RW Richard Zednik

D-men:
Zdeno Chara Lubomir Visnovsky
Robert Svehla Andrej Meszaros
Radoslav Suchy Andrej Sekera

Goalie: Jaroslav Halak
Back Up: Peter Budaj

*I love that fourth line :)!*

All time Czech Republic team:

LW Patrik Elias C Martin Straka RW Jaromir Jagr
LW Vinny Prospal C Bobby Holik RW Milan Hejduk
LW Martin Rucinsky C Petr Nedved RW Petr Sykora
LW Martin Havlat C Robert Lang RW Radek Dvorak

D-men:
Tomas Kaberle Roman Hamrlik
Marek Zidlicky Pavel Kubina
Jaroslav Spacek Jiri Slegr

Goalie: Dominik Hasek
Back Up: Tomas Vokoun

All time Sweden team:

LW Markus Näslund C Peter Forsberg RW Daniel Alfredsson
LW Henrik Zetterberg C Mats Sundin RW Tomas Sandström
LW Daniel Sedin C Henrik Sedin RW Kent Nilsson
LW Mats Naslund C Thomas Steen RW Mikael Renberg

D-men:
Nicklas Lidström Börje Salming
Calle Johansson Mattias Öhlund
Niklas Kronwall Ulf Samuelsson

Goalie: Henrik Lundqvist
Back Up: Tommy Salo

All time Russia team: *Not included the Soviet Union era*

LW Alex Ovechkin C Sergei Fedorov RW Alexander Mogilny
LW Pavel Bure C Alexei Yashin RW Alex Kovalev
LW Ilya Kovalchuk C Evgeni Malkin RW Alexei Morozov
LW Andrei Nazarov C Pavel Datsyuk RW Alexander Semin

D-men:
Sergei Zubov Andrei Markov
Sergei Gonchar Boris Mironov
Vladimir Konstantinov Darius Kasparaitis

Goalie: Evgeni Nabokov
Back Up: Ilya Bryzgalov

All time Canada team:

LW Bobby Hull C Wayne Gretzky RW Gordie Howe
LW Phil Esposito C Mario Lemieux RW Mike Bossy
LW Brendan Shanahan C Steve Yzerman RW Guy Lafleur
LW Luc Robitaille C Mark Messier RW Maurice Richard

D-men:
Bobby Orr Ray Bourque
Denis Potvin Paul Coffey
Scott Stevens Rob Blake

don't know too much about hockey since I've only watched for the last 7 or so years.

but i think it's odd that you include ovechkin and malkin and a lot of other more current russian guys, and you omit crosby from canada. although to be sure there's a ton of talent from canadian hockey, i'm sure there is almost as much from russian hockey.

I think that's a factor of the depth at his position. It's impossible to put Crosby ahead of Gretzky or Lemieux, especially at this point in his career, and though he could give Yzerman a run skills-wise, I personally think Stevie Y was the complete package. And Sid is not going to knock Messier out of the fourth line, figuratively or literally. It's a tough crowd to compete with.

The Russians seem to have a tradition of producing a lot of above average players, but struggling to produce consistent top caliber players. Plus, their limited time period of being on friendly terms with the west really reduces the range of players when compared to the Canucks. Note that most of the Canadian greats aren't playing anymore. They've had a lot of history to pick from. It's all subjective, but I think that gives some insight into the discrepancy.

Just glanced over, but to have Nabokov as the all time Russian goalie over Tretriak...please tell me it was a mind fart or something.

Yeah, Crosby is better than Ovi but Ovi's competition on the left wing in team Russia is pathetic compared to Sid's competition in team Canada. Actually Crosby is no where near of getting in on my list due to all the superb centers Canada have had. He'd be a first liner on a lot of the other teams though.

So...Tretriak, the only Russian goalie in the HHoF, didn't make your list because he only won 3 Olympic Gold, 10 World Cup Gold, and 1 Canada Cup...not to mention being the breakout star in the '72 Summit Series. Those weren't "above average" enough for you? Granted he didn't play in the NHL due to being part of the USSR at the time. But come on...really? Nabakov over Tretiak?

He's not including the Soviet contributions. It's hidden next to the Russian intro, rather than the intro paragraph.
