To me, john was implying that he wished his parents were more encouraging, or provided an environment that was more conducive toward his inquisitive mind.

That's it. Just a :( reflection on what could've been but can't be. However, we'll end on a happy note by mentioning that j9b will provide a more positive environment for his kids by reflecting on the missed opportunities during his childhood.
