Wait. You get the day off for the queen's birthday? What happens when the queen dies? Do you still get that day off, or do you now get off the prince's birthday?

It changes to kings birthday. Im also pretty sure they will use the same day or one around the same time. Its not actually ole Lizzys birthday but a placeholder day in which to celebrate our wonderful monarchs who have such a huge impact on our lives...

I think you'll find that the "official birthday" is the date of the coronation.
H.M. Liz's actual birthday is the same as my father-in-law's, April 21.

So like president's day here in the US - we celebrate various presidents (Lincoln, Roosevelt, Washington, Jefferson), but not all of them, with incredible sales at car dealers where only bank and government employees get the day off. Makes sense to me.

Yeh pretty much, f*ck you could call it beginning of winter holiday for all we care. Long weekend. Choice. (the amount of royalists in NZ is pretty tiny)

In soviet Canada we still celebrate Queen Victoria's birthday, which was back in late May.

dealer's choice

I choose nice.

I had a pleasant weekend comprising of (roughly in a vague order) drinking too much beer, having a pseudo-homosexual chat with RDS (extraordinaily vain people such as myself have a lot in common with gay dudes it turns out), went for a row in petone (on the water, coxed 8, ~6km), drank some more beer, watched a couple games of rugby, had a big sleep in due to aforementioned beer, read 25% of the sequal to ken folletts pillars of the earth (I forget what its called), cooked a chilli, went to the gym, went grocery shopping and had a roast chicken for dinner (precooked supermarket one).

Overall id give it a 6.5 out of 10 and Lootifers Weekend Quality scale has a range of 5.5-7 = "Nice". A shade off 7.5-8 which would qualify as "Good"

Had a family issue to deal with over the weekend. Yay!
While there, my brother told me he didn't like the Avengers movie.
He also said Unforgiven is cliched.

The initial family thing almost took a back seat to that potential boxing match.
