Nerves

Postby jonesthecurl on Mon Jun 11, 2012 2:47 pm

Literally as I type this, the first European run of my murder event, "It was 20 Years Ago Yesterday" is taking place in a chateau just outside Paris.
I wish I coulda gone, but I couldn't abandon the family, and we couldn't afford to both fly over.
I'm anxiously awaiting the results.

But how can I cook while I'm pacing up and down?
Actually, I haveta make the dinner - hungry teens.
I'm making a veggie Sloppy Joe (can't be bothered to cook separately for the veggie today).

It's the only thing that keeps me off pacing when I've been in a similar position. You just need something that requires concentration and timing. Cooking works, plus it gives you an energy fix at the end.

I didn't mention...
this is also our first "corporate" gig - it's part of the launch of a new international company.
We would like to do corporate stuff, it pays.
One of the participants is a big wheel in one of the big hotel chains too. We'd like to set up some weekend gigs with some hotels, I hope she's impressed.
P.S. back to pacing, food's done.
If I was there I wouldn't be nervous.

I actually never had a problem with public speaking, which is weird considering I'm pretty quiet around people I don't know. I never really understood why people get so nervous.

17 is the age of consent in Illinois. Perhaps you should've done that here.

congratulations in order then?

For future reference, when fighting nerves, try these:

1.Clean (your wife will greatly appreciate -- side benefit, eh). If nothing else, the attic/basement/closets often can use attention. (behind the stove, under the fridge, etc, etc....)

2.Play a game with the kids(though I guess yours have graduated to "teen" now) -- be it basketball, cards or ... nothing terribly thought-intensive, just distracting action.

3. Take a walk... a LONG walk. Or bike, jog, golf, etc. (doesn't matter if its "your thing" or not, the point is just distraction)

4. mow the lawn/weed/garden.

5. get the latest movie. But, unless its REALLY engaging, chances are it won't work.
I would put eating down the list a ways (dangerous), though cooking can work. (have a freezer? Fill it up!).

Believe it or not, I find that cleaning (in the "organizing" sense) along with music helps me take my mind off things while also earning marriage capital with the Bank of Mrs. thegreekdog.
