I was fine with that, and fine with him doing all ours too. I'm crap at anythig like that. One Christmas (our last together) she bought me the Reader's Digest Book of D.I.Y. . "Why did you get me this?" I cried, "You know I'm rubbish at all that stuff!". "Exactly." she said.

Reminds me of when my brothers were looking at one of their cars when my husband and I were visiting. My husband went out, pretty quickly helped them figure out what was wrong. Both my brothers were effussive with praise. My husband dismissed it, saying "doesn't everyone grow up messing with cars?" My brothers and I all looked at each other and cracked up laughing. "No,", my brothers replied, some of us grow up messing with computers." (my husband knows a lot less about computers than my brothers know about cars)

All of them can, however, cook decently (albiet VERY differently!) So, I guess they at least have their priorities straight!

If you mash them up too much (I like the little chunks!).

If you don't mash them enough.
Nothing is worse than lumpy mashed potatoes.

Cook 'em too lomg.
Cook 'em too little.
Use the wrong sort of potato.
Too stiff.
Too watery.
put too much/too little milk in.
Ditto butter.
Ditto whatever else you put in there - cheddar, parmesan, salt, pepper, other vegetables.

My father-in-law can't cook at all, but when the kids were smaller they always wanted "Grandad mash" - i.e. mash exactly like Gtrandad made it. It's the only thing he does in the kitchen, and he's good at it.

No need, they're getting fried potatoes.

When our daughter was 3 she did not like potatoes, but like everyone she loved freedom fries. One day she asked, "What's the white part inside French fries?" when we told her it was potato she was horrified. We were of course amused.

Also I vacuumed today.

In my first year of university I lived with a girl who boiled 4/5 potatoes and then poured a liter of milk over them before mashing, creating a sort of potato and milk slush by the time she was finished.

Some people are just criminally bad in the kitchen.

I also lived with a guy who gave me a pack of rice and asked how to cook it. His trademark dish was putting pieces of cheese, ketchup and mayonnaise on a slice of bread and then microwaving it until it went soggy.

If you're mowing your carpet, you might have a problem.

Not nearly as bad as the problem we get if I don't.
