So, I isntalled that shit, so that there was a learning curve or something and I uninstalled it. I really doubt the I would be into it in 5 days so why waste my time learning it.

AoG just lost all internets.

WHY WOULD I KNOW FREECIV WHEN I ALREADY OWN ALL FIVE CIVS

1) easiest way to play when you are at a cross platform LAN party
2) for when you are at your grandmother's house and forgot your civ CDs
3) infinite customization (to be fair, they all have that to some extent)
4) hex maps
5) chess tile set proves how badass you are
6) you have all the civs (and all the expansions), both ctps, AC (and AC:AC), civ the card game, civ the board game, Sid meier's civ board game, the computer game port of the board game (only counts of you played it), and you still want more?

By the way, on the civfanatics website, there is an interview with Sid Meier in which he denies that his game was based on the board game. This is laughable to those of us who have played the board game. What's more is that in the Civilization I strategy guide (which I own) Sid meier's talks about how much that game influenced his. Basically, he's a fucking weasel now. He got elevated to game god status (rightfully) and started thinking that he was a God and that rules of decency no longer applied. Oh well, here's to RRT7 or whatever is next.

The Civilization board game really is a great game.

And there was a computer version of it at one point, by Avalon Hill, who owned the boardgame at the time.

My brothers and I tried creating a sort of card game for Command and Conquer: Red Alert. It was actually extremely fun and fair.

I'm interested in stuffing you guys at Civ 4 via the internet.

Also:

Hmm. Electronic game-maker copies a board game and denies being influenced by it. Where have I heard that before?

I'm currently playing Civ V, but I liked IV the best. I can't even remember Civ II, but weren't there victory conditions? Couldn't this Lyserius person just meet one of the victory conditions?

It is an interesting commentary. It's funny how there were empires throughout history that could exist without major conflict with other empires, mainly because they were so far apart. Now that the rivals are close together (i.e. in this Lyserius game), they can kill each other. What Civ II doesn't do is provide a peaceful resolution in terms of getting a cultural victory (which other Civ games do). I suspect that is a real life alternative to total global warfare.

My brother and I created a strategy board game for Star Wars back in the day. I think we based it partially on Civilization. I bet my parents still have it somewhere.

I didn't read the article, I think he met the condition "go to alpha centauri", which means he's already won, he just keeps on playing to see what happens on earth in the future (you can keep playing even after you've won, only difference is that your score won't be updated) .

Ah. My bad.

Maybe I'll try this with Civ V. Unfortunately, there has been only one war (not my civilization) and it was short. On my continent, we're all friends... wait until we get to the second continent.
