He died on his second 1000 ft. jump (while he was supposedly going to retrieve his gear) because he couldn't resist doing it again.
:(

The man seemed amazing.
Renewed yet infused with apathy.
Let's just have a good time, all right?

Yeah, the guy's a legend.

While Honnold and such are free soloing routes harder than he ever did, I've never seen anyone do a speedrun like that sprint up a cliff of his. Also, I've seen some interviews with him and he actually seems like a decent guy.

As far as I understand his death was due to the ropes having been left in the rain and him jumping on a slightly wrong trajectory that made two of the ropes cross and broke one of them.
It's funny that after all the free soloing he died with a rope tied to him ...

Anyway, here's another great video of him (at the end it has the sort of jump that eventually got him killed, also climbing a fucking waterfall).

Let's go from sprint to marathon.

Ueli Steck speed climbs the Eiger, destroying the previous record in the process.

This still gives me nightmares.

It seems pretty easy-going. You get a nice path which isn't slippery. You have a steel cable attached to the cliff which you link up to. And if the cement breaks away, there's always the steel beam to grab onto as you fall.

This seems a bit more worrisome.

Splat, lol.

Here's a better video of the crash:

He really was crazy close to dying on that one. Only broke his legs though. He's now back to his usual antics.

I think that might be because the camera seems to be shifted a bit to the right, so it appears like the guy is walking with one foot on thin air. It's just a disconcerting perspective.
