Florida governor driving tourists away

Postby GaryDenton on Mon May 22, 2023 11:06 am

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People on Saturday issued a travel advisory for Florida, saying that under Gov. Ron DeSantis the state has become “openly hostile toward African Americans, people of color and L.G.B.T.Q.+ individuals.”

The N.A.A.C.P. joins the League of United Latin American Citizens, a civil rights organization that issued a Florida travel warning on Wednesday, and Equality Florida, a gay rights advocacy group that issued one last month.

Isn't one job of Florida's governor supposed to be promoting tourism, not driving everyone away?

When did every prominent Republican politician become a bigotted fool?

Gifted article.

NAACP Issuing a Press Release ≠ Tourists Being Driven Away from Florida

Meanwhile, back on Earth ...

Isn't one job of Florida's governor supposed to be promoting tourism, not driving everyone away?

YUP!

Tourism numbers in Florida broke records in 2022 and in the last quarter of the year, according to President and CEO of VISIT FLORIDA, Dana Young, who in an update showcased a 5 percent increase in visitor totals from 2019, far surpassing its recovery from the pandemic.

This past year saw 137.6 million visitors to Florida, a 12.9 increase over 2021 and 5 percent more than in 2019. International arrivals for the year increased by 73 percent, as Florida welcomed 7 million. One million of these international travelers to Florida during the last quarter of 2022 were Canadian, an increase of 278 percent from 2021.

Yeah… people are gonna go to Florida.

No one cares what these Woke groups say.

The NAACP was a powerful organization with a righteous agenda 50 years ago. Like the ACLU, which once also had a righteous agenda.

Both organizations have gotten so obsessed and tied up in its’ own philosophy that they have lost any sense of moderation or perspective. Occasionally either organization might make the right call on a random issue, but more often than not the crazies have taken over the insane asylum, and there’s not much good coming out IMHO.

Correction…

I loved the NAACP of the 50’s - 70’s.

I have no respect for the majority of positions the current NAACP Leadership takes… I believe that Martin Luther King Junior would also likely have a problem with the majority of positions the current incarnation of the NAACP takes.

You don't like the ACLU or the NAACP and I suppose nearly all other groups representing their people.
We will see how Florida travel keeps up with the feud with Disney and GOP anti-gay and minority messages and their growing problems with guns and police.

Probably the same way they kept up when DeSantis started shipping migrants to NYC and the Left screamed "DESANTIS WILL GET SUED TO DEATH AND FLORIDA WILL COLLAPSE INTO THE OCEAN!!!" (the first of the two heavily reported lawsuits was quietly dismissed the other month and the second is pending dismissal)

The conspiracy theory-prone Left can make these madcap predictions that are totally detached from reality without any consequences because no one bothers to go back to check to see how wrong they were.
As soon as the dust from the last buffoon forecast has settled, they puke up a new insane prediction like regurgitated cat food. This whips their base into another wild-eyed, frothing-at-the-mouth hysteria: "FLORIDA WILL LOSE ALL TOURISTS AND MICKEY MOUSE WILL SODOMIZE DESANTIS' WIFE WITH AN AR-15!"

So if I go to Florida, the governor would give me a ride home after? I am interested in this. Is there a fee or is it a free service.,

Almost everyone who goes to Disneyland is middle-class and politically probably somewhere between centre-left and hard-right.

I really don't think the extreme lefties that DeSantis is offending were part of Florida's target market anyway, There's very little downside and a lot of upside for pissing them off.

The NAACP is being parodied into the ditch. Rick Scott is a little bit of a nutter so the NAACP is now in a position of its own design in which it's engaged in a tête-à-tête exclusively with nutters like Scott and Cruz, the whole dialog ignored by the mainstream. It shot itself in the head with an irrelevance cannon.

Sen. Rick Scott issued what he described as a “formal travel advisory for socialists visiting Florida,” on Tuesday, warning that the state was “openly hostile” to socialists.

“The state of Florida devalues and marginalizes the contributions of, and the challenges faced by Socialists and others who work in the Biden Administration,” Scott, who is also the state’s former governor, said in a press release.

I believe Florida is "openly hostile" to tourists. They changed the license plates on rental cars in an attempt to reduce the amount of people getting shot for driving one.

Florida Right Wing provokes backlash.

"No one is teaching your kids to be gay,” she told the room. “Sometimes, they just are gay. I have math to teach. I literally don’t have time to teach your kids to be gay.”

Nearly 50 teachers are reportedly planning to resign in this school district. Lisa Masserio, president of the teachers union in Hernando County, says state laws and directives restricting educators are a key reason. She told us: “There is increased pressure and scrutiny on an already difficult job.”

Just as a car wreck commands attention, the ugliness of right-wing culture-warring often transfixes the news media. But another story is beckoning: Ordinary parents everywhere and their elected representatives are responding, and declaring that they’ve had enough.

Rats are always "reportedly planning to" do something or another.

I remember when they were "reportedly planning to" sue De Santis to death over migrant flights, just long enough to whip their wild eyed followers into a GoFundMe giving frenzy ... then quietly backed out of the suits without so much as $1 in damages to their name.

The Rats are less of a political party than a candy company ... because all they have are suckers.

The media is perpetuating this fear.

My wife fucking bought Maus (1&2) through Amazon because she thought that it was “about to be banned” and she wanted to have a copy.

(Meanwhile if she had asked me she’d know I’ve already got a copy of both in my Graphic Novel Collection.)

I tried to explain that…

1) I doubt Maus was actually being removed from school libraries… maybe from elementary level libraries. It can be argued it’s not appropriate for 3rd graders… as it looks like a cartoon book but is obviously about deeper issues.

2) Even if it was being removed from school libraries across the entire state of Florida… that didn’t mean it was being “banned” in Florida. Anyone in Florida is free to go on Amazon and buy this or walk into any good bookstore and pick it up.

3) Even if it was entirely banned in Florida… that doesn’t mean it’s imminent =ly likely to be banned in Massachusetts.

Yet she goes out and drops $30 on a couple books that we already have just because the media says it’s “being banned”.

It’s ridiculous the extreme language the Left Wing media uses to attack the right. They know their constituents (like JP4 for example) are unable to process any level of nuance… so instead of saying “it’s being removed from select elementary school libraries” they say “It’s being BANNED!”.

Exaggeration becomes a lie at some point.

Have you considered buying a 18 inch dildo, and shoving it up your ass till it kills you? may help you save money on the car rental
