78-81 Communists in Congress?

Postby Phatscotty on Thu Apr 19, 2012 3:22 pm

In the early 1900's, the Communist Party renamed themselves the Progressive Party.

Look how angry Soledad gets! And she calls herself a journalist?! I don't think so...

Agree or disagree with West, Soledad O'Brien can't pull off a single interview without coming across as a completely hysterical bitch. West's accusations seem a little extreme to me but he definitely seemed like the more rational one in the room compared to the cackling passive-aggressive theatrics of Soledad. I don't know if it's the menopause that's made her crazy or what but she's a complete nutcase.

What's interested is that she neglected to highlight West's actual point, which was equating the Communists with those Progressives.

I would have liked for her to allow West to explain the similarities between those two groups. This way, we could see the justification for Allen's labeling them as Communists, but she failed at that. Instead she's like "omg, person A is a Communist???" "Here's what this guy said: "these labels are extreme!"

Yes, they are extreme (as in not normally said?), but that doesn't mean that they are incorrect or correct.

I guess what she was doing was expressing disbelief in order to undermine West's argument without having to logically attacking it. "like omg this person is Communist??" is not even an argument. That was pathetic on her part.

He did get the part out about how the Communists changed their names to Progressive.

Many people ask "What does progressive mean? What are you progressing to?" The answer, whether Progressives know it or not, is....

anyone who might consider themselves Progressive should take a look at how similar Progressivism is to Communism. Progressive doesn't mean what he think it means anymore...it's just a less negative name for Communists

Communists states kill people, communism kills no one. Unless you can directly show how communism leads to mass murder.

You may rightly so minimize the impact of Communism on the 20th century. Can I ask why? And what is right with Communism in your opinion?

What? Your question confuses me. Are you saying he was right to minimize the impact of Communism, and you're asking why he was right to?

If you're asking why he's, as you see it, defending Communism, then you're really dodging this:
"Communists states kill people, communism kills no one. Unless you can directly show how communism leads to mass murder."

Are you choosing not to address that at all? Or do you accept it, or...?

The words communist and state are incompatible. Communist states do not kill people, totalitarian states kill people.

Unless I misunderstood he was conceding the point but asking why I was defending communism. I was doing so because both in the videos shown and by the comments made by scotty "communist" was almost being used as an insult. While I would not describe myself as a commie I think it is a valid alternative to capitalism and shouldn't be used as an insult any more than "capitalist" should be.

Well, #1, I was asking PM. #2 there is more to the discussion than just the post you jumped in on. #3 Why do I have to repeat the same things over and over again? 8-)

I asked him why he is minimizing the impact of Communism. in other words, why make the effort to "correct" me that it is not Communism that killed more people in the 20th century than all religious wars combined since the beginning of time, it's just Communist states.... The connection of Communism -Communist state is self evident.

I'm sure he can handle it. We don't really need to double sugar coat Communism to make it sound better

If a person believes in Communism, let them share their beliefs open and in the public. If the people don't like that viewpoint, they will be voted out of office. It's this backhanded re-labeling of their ideas that are causing us to move closer to Communism without most people realizing or recognizing it. Be open about your beliefs and let the public decide who they want to be representing them.

look at the history of Communism. It should be insulted, especially in a country that sent millions of it's soldiers to kill Communists (oh, but don't insult it!!!).

Correction - Communist "states" have killed more people in the 20th century than all religious wars combined since the beginning of time. The communist philosophy however has nothing to do with all the murdering....it's just a coincidence

Do you correlate/equate the fact that those states were communistic with the number of deaths per state?

That's the good thing about Obama. All the socialists, Communists, and Progressives feel comfortable admitting it. Obama still hasn't come around, but a few years ago people would flip out when we pointed out his socialist tendencies, now the give us the socialist but will flip out of you call Obama a Communist. I do not think he is a full fledged Communist, but it's clear to me if you scaled Obama on a Capitalist/Communist identifier, he is far closer to a Communist than he is a Capitalist. I don't know which other president actively looked for Marxist professors to cozy up to, or repeats that he wants to force everyone to be their brothers keeper, or is on the record as saying he want's to spread the wealth around

Millions of soldiers to kill communists? I am pretty sure my country never did that.. and even if it did have a look for my nationalism thread form not too long ago.

I don't believe Cuba ever killed people on mass and I don't believe China is currently doing so either. Communist state does not inherently lead to mass killings, it just so happens to have done so on some occasions in highly populated countries.

Logical fallacy mate.

China's One Child policy kills millions every single year (or at least hundreds of thousands).

I think you are gonna need a source on this. However I don't really see it as relevant anyway, there are still communist states which manage to refrain from killing (GO CUBA!) and that particular outcome has much to do with overpopulation and sadistic parents. The main problem with communist states is that they have tended to be totalitarian, democratically elected communist states would stop all the murderin'
